Curbside voting ban becomes Alabama law with Gov. Kay Ivey's signature
Source: The Birmingham News
Gov. Kay Ivey today signed a bill to ban curbside voting, which is not used in Alabama but became an issue during the 2020 elections because of a lawsuit and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ivey signed HB285 by Rep. Wes Allen, R-Troy. Lawmakers had approved the bill on the last day of the session May 17. It passed both houses on partisan votes.
Republicans said curbside voting would jeopardize ballot security. Democrats opposed the bill and said curbside voting could be done securely and could improve access for some voters.
Last year, some voters and advocacy groups filed a federal lawsuit challenging some Alabama voting laws as overly restrictive during the COVID-19 pandemic. A federal judge ruled that counties should be able to offer curbside voting.

What's the deal with "limited government" Repub govs in ex Confederate states signing bans on imaginary problems like "biological males in women's sports" or curbside voting fraud?

Ohios GOP idiots created a bill that forbids the governor from closing gun stores under health orders during a pandemic, even though De Wine did not order them closed during last years lockdown.
It sure would be nice if they would actually address some important problems instead of wasting time on this bullshit.

(3,166 posts)Just like many QOP "ideas" this seems to go against their own voters. Isn't curbside voting used a lot by senior citizens, a group that leans Republican??
Sheesh. These people are bound and determined to make it as hard to vote as possible.

(50,554 posts)It appears the Republican goal in 2021 is to fix all the problems that don't exist. I think I heard that a red state that has never had an abortion clinic in it is trying to ban abortion within its borders.
