BLM Co-Founder Patrisse Cullors Stepping Down From Foundation

Source: NBC - Washington

A co-founder of Black Lives Matter announced Thursday that she is stepping down as executive director of the movement’s foundation. She decried what she called a smear campaign from a far-right group, but said neither that nor recent criticism from other Black organizers influenced her departure.

Patrisse Cullors, who has been at the helm of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation for nearly six years, said she is leaving to focus on other projects, including the upcoming release of her second book and a multi-year TV development deal with Warner Bros. Her last day with the foundation is Friday.

“I’ve created the infrastructure and the support, and the necessary bones and foundation, so that I can leave,” Cullors told The Associated Press. “It feels like the time is right.”

Cullors’ departure follows a massive surge in support and political influence in the U.S. and around the world for the BLM movement, which was established nearly eight years ago in response to injustice against Black Americans. The resignation also comes on the heels of controversy over the foundation’s finances and over Cullors’ personal wealth.

Inside BLM co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors’ million-dollar real estate buying binge- NY Post

As protests broke out across the country in the name of Black Lives Matter, the group’s co-founder went on a real estate buying binge, snagging four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone, according to property records.

Patrisse Khan-Cullors, 37, also eyed property in the Bahamas at an ultra-exclusive resort where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods both have homes, The Post has learned. Luxury apartments and townhouses at the beachfront Albany resort outside Nassau are priced between $5 million and $20 million, according to a local agent.

The self-described Marxist last month purchased a $1.4 million home on a secluded road a short drive from Malibu in Los Angeles, according to a report. The 2,370-square-foot property features “soaring ceilings, skylights and plenty of windows” with canyon views. The Topanga Canyon homestead, which includes two houses on a quarter-acre, is just one of three homes Khan-Cullors owns in the Los Angeles area, public records show.

Unless someone can show her income is obtained by fraud, or has harmed the organization she heads in some way, I could not give so much as the tail end of a pizza-toting rat what she has bought.

This is a common line off attack from plutocrats against left leadership. It seems rooted in a primitive sort of class-identity --- if you aren't poor, how you could you be for poor people? You must be in it only for the money, as a racket, if you've got two dimes to rub together..

The article mentions she has book and tv deals so she may have used money from these things to buy things.

She had a best seller. That makes a writer lots of money. If there were facts to back up these insinuations, it would be in the NY Post article. Personally, I think it’s a hit piece.
