NEW YORK, June 16 (Reuters) - Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite fighting U.S. federal sex trafficking charges, remains subjected to raw sewage, water deprivation, "hyper-surveillance" by overbearing guards and other unacceptable treatment in jail, according to her lawyer.

Maxwell, 59, is preparing for a possible November trial on charges she procured four underage girls for the late financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse. Maxwell has pleaded not guilty and faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted.

In a Tuesday night filing, lawyer Bobbi Sternheim said Maxwell was forced to change cells at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after raw sewage last week permeated her cell.

Sternheim also said guards are still able to read Maxwell's confidential legal papers and monitor her meetings with lawyers, and that neither Maxwell nor her lawyers were allowed water during a four-hour meeting on Sunday.

I am against inhumane treatment of anyone, but this very much sounds like an overblown Karen-style description of her in-cell toilet clogging and overflowing and they moved her to another one because of it. At least they moved her.

And heightened scrutiny is for her own safety since Epstein suicided or "was suicided".

If her petition was for improved jail conditions for ALL prisoners, she would have my attention and my support for the cause...if her petition is only for poor wittle Ghislaine, my reaction is a lot different.

the need to fix our prisons, the prisoners should not be subjected to those horrible things like sewage and thirst etc.

I find it odd that someone who is in jail for procuring young, underage girls for sweaty, disgusting old rich dudes to fuck without consent or even knowledge of what is happening to them would have the nerve to complain about the conditions she is now living in. Overbearing prison guards? As long as someone is not holding you down and molesting you I think you still have it pretty cushy there. Maybe you should spend some time thinking about what you put those girls through.

... they have to have guards; it's prison! She probably requires "overbearing" guards, for her own safety. I think the sewage problem can be fixed by the prison plumber. If that's a problem in this prison, it might be a good job for Ms. Maxwell. Finally, about the water... I think she should be provided with as much as she needs. We don't deprive people of food and water. I would make sure the faucet works.
