House passes bill to remove Confederate statues from Capitol

Source: The Hill

The House passed legislation on Tuesday that would remove artwork from the Capitol that honors people with legacies of defending slavery, including by serving the Confederacy.

The 285-120 vote was bipartisan, but it split Republicans. A minority of 67 Republicans joined with all Democrats in support, while 120 voted against it.

“We ought not to forget history. We must learn from history. But we ought not to honor that which defiled the principles for which we think we stand,” said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the bill’s primary author. “It's time to remove those symbols of slavery, segregation and sedition from these halls.”

The legislation would order the removal of more than half a dozen Confederate statues currently displayed in the Capitol as part of the National Statuary Hall Collection. Under the current rules for the collection, any statue can only be removed if the state government that contributed it gives the green light.

Just over two thirds of the House R's voted against it, which would translate to 33 R Senators opposing it and 17 supporting it. So at least 65 Senators would support the bill and it would pass. Approximately, all other things being equal (which they rarely are).

Yes, but how do you get Moscow Mitch, Leningrad Lindsey, Empty Gangrene, Lauren Bozobert, Cowboy Nunes, etc to stand still for it?

I mean, it's one thing to "freeze" for a minute or two, but all day every day?

... having statues of Loyalists from the American Revolutionary War around the Capitol!

https://loyalistsandpatriots.org/membership/
Loyalist membership is available to those persons who can prove that he or she is a lineal or collateral descendant of an ancestor who, during the period of the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783, was loyal to the Crown of Great Britain.

You know, such statues and symbols would SUPPOSEDLY preserve "the history and legacy of these heroes so that future generations can understand the motives that animated the Loyalist Cause". (Quoted text from the Sons of Confederate Veterans website, substituting Loyalist.)
