Gaetz invites Britney Spears to testify before Congress

"You have been mistreated by Americas legal system. We want to help," Gaetz wrote in a letter to Spears dated Wednesday. "The United States Congress should hear your story and be inspired to bipartisan action. What happened to you should never happen to any other American."
Gaetz said he and fellow Republican Reps. Majorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Burgess Owens (Utah) and Andy Biggs (Ariz.) have been following her conservatorship battle with deep concern and stand with the pop star.
Rumors about Spears' discontent with her conservatorship spread for years online and trended with the #FreeBritney hashtag. But last week, Spears spoke directly about the issue herself in court, describing her conservatorship as abusive.

(1,639 posts)Brittney Spears is a cause celebre right now and Gaetz and company want to jump on the bandwagon of feeling sympathy for someone abused by the legal system. . . Someone who is blonde and pretty and non-threatening [read: White]. George Floyd didn't fit those categories.
One of the reasons that Gaetz's interest in this case feels squicky (sorry for using the technical term) is that he takes advantage of the lack of confidence and discernment of barely legal young women when he pursues them sexually. And Ms. Spears was paraded out in a sexualized manner when she was still underage all while being encouraged (Or she may have been happy to play the game, what do I know?) to also engage in virtue-signaling and proclaim virginity to our sex-conflicted mainstream culture.
The hypocrisy of Brittney Spears selling sex as a pop-star while also selling abstinence to her fan base (and privately having sex) is completely on-brand for Matt Gaetz. (Again, I am not specifically calling out Ms. Spears for her actions when she was underage and being guided by others in her career choices.)

Yep, sounds like modern-day Republicanism to me. Congratulations, Brit -- you've joined Doctor Seuss and Mister Potatohead as subjects worthy of QGOP protection. All I can say is:

Maybe he could just get a reality show and out of the Senate- that would be a win/win
