Kinzinger on McCarthy warning about Jan. 6 commission: 'Who gives a s---?'

Source: The Hill

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Thursday dismissed a warning from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to his members not to accept a seat on a special House committee that will probe the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

“Who gives a shit?” Kinzinger asked reporters Thursday morning when he was questioned about McCarthy's reported threat to members of his caucus that they could be stripped of their committee assignments for accepting a spot on the body.

The House voted Wednesday to set up a select committee to investigate what led to and happened during the Jan. 6 attack carried out by supporters of former President Trump. Lawmakers voted largely along party lines, 222-190, with only two Republicans, Kinzinger and Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.), joining every Democrat in supporting the creation of the committee.

The select committee will be composed of eight members selected by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and five chosen by McCarthy.

In my view, they are brave. It's too bad they don't have policy positions that are more liberal.

We will all suffer greatly if the repubs get the house.

I think Kinzinger might be fine, but Cheney's days are probably numbered. They are going to come after her with a vengeance in the primary.

Districts typically change greatly here in Northern
Illinois after the census. There is always population growth and movement, especially in the far West suburbs of Chicago, and the ex- urbs.

I have been in the 16th, the 17th and the 14th.

I am in the 90th district for my state rep. to Springfield. It looks like I will be in the 89th, according to the most likely map. We will have to do something to galvanize that district. Last time, they did not even have a candidate filed.

Sure, but I can live with opposing views from people of good conscience. That used to be the case with the so-called "loyal opposition." I don't subscribe to the notion that someone is evil just because they disagree with me, and I feel like that outlook has been lost over the last 20 years.

CNN ran a series of articles a few years ago called "The Divided States of America." It had some eye-opening statistics included, so I recommend giving it a look sometime.

should McCarthy do what I expect him to and appoint Brooks, Gosar, Boebert, Greene, and himself. When that fails, expect him to drag his feet for months, refusing to appoint anyone, "I'll show her!"

And to think the Rs could have had a 50-50 split as well as the requirement that both the D and R chairs agree to any subpoenas had they not torpedoed the bill to set up an independent commission.

those committees don't DO anything when Republicans are in charge except posture and complain about Democrats and make sure no one gets anything done so the PAC money will keep rolling on in.

So there is Kinzinger and there is Cheney. There have to be four other frustrated Republicans who realize they've got little to lose by angering the clowns and seditionists.

... possibly hoping to be the leader of a "Reasonable Republican" faction. Maybe he sees himself as a young John McCain type "maverick."

Whatever his motivation, it does the heart good to hear someone tell the GOP leadership to stuff it.
