A judge told a Capitol riot suspect to get rid of his guns. The feds say he bought 34 more.

Source: Insider via Yahoo

Federal prosecutors say an ex-cop and Capitol riot suspect violated his pre-trial release conditions by buying 34 guns, and possessing a loaded M4 carbine and partially assembled pipe bomb at his home, according to court documents.

Thomas Robertson, ex-officer of the Rocky Mount Police Department in Virginia, is one of the 545 people that have been arrested and charged in connection to the January 6 insurrection so far. The Washington Post was first to report the latest court filing.

Robertson, who faces four federal charges, was released from jail in January. A judge agreed to release him pending trial, but one of the conditions was that he "refrain from possessing a firearm, destructive device, or other dangerous weapon," court documents said.

But just four days after Robertson's release, authorities discovered eight firearms, including a Hawken Rifle and Smith and Wesson, at his Virginia residence, according to a motion to revoke Robertson's release order.

… snip …

The FBI also searched Robertson's home and "not only found evidence that Robertson had amassed an arsenal of 34 firearms through a local [Federal Firearms License] in Roanoke, but agents also found a loaded M4 rifle, ammunition, and a partially assembled pipe bomb in Robertson's home."

Spending disposable income on guns is beyond average Americans. Maybe he took out a loan for them.

15. My best guess he was buying and reselling them.

According to the article he purchased 34 guns and the search found eight. If this is the case he might be up for illegal gun sales.

20. I saw a report he hadn't picked them up from a dealer....

The dealer was holding them. He bought them through gun web sites and had them shipped to a licensed dealer. He could have picked any up at any time though.

That's the fallacy of these orders. You can't have them in your posession, but you still have ready access to them.

Nice going. They give these assholes every benefit of the doubt. If a 14 year old black kid jumps the subway turnstiles they’re sent to River Islands to await trial. Hey judes, just pretend all these insurrectionist guys are black!

8. " discovered eight firearms, including a Hawken Rifle "

A "Hawken rifle" is a muzzle loader. Not even considered a firearm by Federal law.

14. re: m4 rifle

As a civilian, you may not legally own an M4 anywhere in the US, unless you are a licensed machine gun dealer. Only those fully automatic firearms that were already registered with the BATFE by May 1986 CAN be transferred (legally) to a private citizen. And the M4 was not created until AFTER May 1986 (1994). looked at the price of the m4 carbine and they aint cheep. 36 guns , yeah i hope they revolked his release priveleges .

24. I agree.

Those people seem to live under the delusion that the rest of society is just going to lay down if they become really violent. They are total fools and have no clue of what civil war looks and feels like. To them, they can start a civil war and them continue to go out for their fast food. Foolish assholes.

25. When I see those people with piles of guns, my thoughts are like yours.

They can only shoot one gun at a time and be accurate, so are they planning to raise an army for the rest of the guns? What happens when they run out of ammo? What happens when adversaries come after them with lethal stuff that a gun can’t deal with?

29. Usually that kind of stockpiling

Is for arming others and used as replacements such as being told to turn in or having your weapons confiscated while having a dozen more barried somewhere that they can turn to after wards. I'm sure ammo goes along with that especially when you have that kind of money to spend on that amount of guns. AR's and AK's tend to fair pretty well against police forces which tend to be the strong arm of oppressive governments against their own people. Assuming of course that that hypothetical is why they bought that many guns. Or maybe he's just a collector.

30. The guy could possibly be collecting SOME of the guns, the muzzle-loader

fall into that category.

I am generally very concerned about people that stockpile guns to “stand” against police, even in cases where police departments are sorely in need of reform. Honestly, anyone who thinks that he or she can succeed in such effort outside of outright civil war is a fool, the person is quickly going to get outgunned and highly likely killed.

33. An AR could also fall into that camp.

It just depends on what those other firearms are. 25 of them being AR's and AK's sends a bigger red flag than maybe 2 or 3. They mention an "m4", but nothing else of which I tend to question the validity of that in most cases(though he is an ex-cop so maybe a little more likely). I'd be more worried about the partially assembled pipe bomb which shows greater intention than the arsenal.

If you ever talked to those types that have that level of disdain for cops it's not about "surviving" but rather taking as many of those involved with the system with them as possible. There really isn't much dilution of overthrowing the system and riding off into the sunset. At most they want a conflict to send a message and get people questioning the system of which there has been a greater influx of that these past few years. To a lot of them it's about their rights being violated which they feel are worth dying over.
