Desperate To Get Americans Vaccinated As The Delta Variant Spreads, Biden Suggests A Door-To-Door Va

Source: Business Insider

As the more transmissible Delta variant spreads throughout the US, President Joe Biden is scrambling to find ways to get more Americans vaccinated, including going door-to-door.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Biden said mass vaccination sites across the country are closing down, and now "we need to go to community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and oftentimes, door to door — literally knocking on doors — to get help to the remaining people protected from the virus."

Experts have said communities with the least vaccination rates are more at risk of outbreaks caused by the more transmissible Delta variant, which originated in India. The variant may also be able to evade protection from existing vaccines, as Insider's Aria Bendix reported.

The variant has already been found in all 50 states and is dominant in five, including California. It's expected to be the most dominant strain in the country in the coming weeks. Delta poses the most risks to the unvaccinated. A recent Associated Press analysis found almost all of the COVID-19 deaths in the US are among those who are unvaccinated...

initially in India, but I seriously doubt it originated there. Viruses mutate constantly. It's more than likely SARS-CoV2 mutated exactly the same way in other countries on its own.

Here is an article about a woman who was being tracked as part of an HIV project where the virus had mutated some 30 times within her own body: https://www.businessinsider.com/woman-hiv-had-coronavirus-216-days-virus-mutated-2021-6

18. RNA viruses are a single strand
Wed Jul 7, 2021, 12:33 PM

instead of the double strand of DNA. With RNA, transcription can be sloppy and a lot of errors slip in. Most of these errors render the virus inactive. A few make it more transmissible or more virulent, a few make it less so. The more transmissible variants become the dominant variants very quickly. Virulence is a separate thing and has no effect on whether a strain becomes dominant.

Ooops, virulence = how sick you get while your immune system figures out how to get rid of it.

The nightmare is something as easily spread and as deadly as the 1918 flu. We're not there. We might get there if Republicans insist on being walking viral culture media.

Idiots! President Biden is trying to save their stupid lives, along with the lives of the people unfortunate enough to have to interact with them. It's the latter who are assuredly worth the government's efforts to go door-to-door *if necessary*. If the former wants to pretend that someone coming to their home to literally help save their lives and those of their neighbors constitutes a rebirth of Stalinism, then so be it. Sadly, there is no way to vaccinate people against their own stupidity.

They just don't give a shit about their audience, otherwise they'd be hyping the vaccine 24/7.

I feel sad for the children and elderly parents of these "I have a constitutional right to refuse" yahoos. Thanos didn't need to acquire all of the Infinity Stones -- the 29% of the population who are "vaccine hesitant" will reduce the size of the population for him.

"survival of the fittest" scenario. At this point in time vaccines are able to deflect and or keep infections at a minimum with a small percentage of deaths, and any deaths concerning this virus in itself is horrible. Side effects and longtime health problems is another factor as well.

Alas, the information concerning the Delta variant is killing and maiming the "un-vaccination" at an alarming rate and allowing this variant to flourish. The attitude of not getting the vaccine where it has been proven to date - saves lives is causing another outbreak.

29% has went down and hopefully the USA can fight back.

Our mass vaccination site closed several weeks ago. People around here don't want to get vaccinated. And plenty of them are going on vacation to other parts of the state or country. I'd say it's more than 29% here.

I'm at the point where I have completely lost all faith in humanity when so many people are willfully putting the lives of others at risk and consider the rest of us to be the evil ones. SMDH

I would not want to be knocking on some paranoid heavily armed lunatic's door asking them if they'd like a vaccine.

So I'm hoping this is more of a homebound disabled person or someone who is too busy to take time off work from their hourly job and can get a house call when they're free. That's what my city (DC) has been doing. The first contact might be through community groups but they would operate in neighborhoods where they know the people living there are not going to shoot them.

From my alderman’s weekly newsletter, late June

The Chicago Department of Public Health announced that its in-home vaccination program, Protect Chicago At Home, is now open to all Chicago residents age 12 and up. To encourage Chicago residents to take advantage of the program, Chicago-based Grubhub will donate gift cards valued at $50 to every household that chooses in-home vaccination.

Appointments can be booked now and gift card distribution will begin June 28. The gift cards will be usable immediately at any restaurant available through the Grubhub app. In-home vaccination offers a choice between the Pfizer (12 and older) and Johnson & Johnson (18 and older) vaccines. Up to 10 people can be vaccinated per household. Gift cards are limited to one card per household.

To date, Protect Chicago At Home has administered in-home vaccination to more than 3,500 Chicagoans. Initially launched to bring vaccines to homebound seniors and people with disabilities in March, the program expanded to all seniors in May. It is the only on-demand, in-home vaccination program now available to all residents age 12 and up in the U.S.

. . . As the City transitions away from fixed vaccination sites, it continues to offer vaccine at dozens of neighborhood-based pop-up and mobile vaccination events, including at churches, food pantries, farmers markets, parks and beaches, CTA “L” stops and more. Visit chicago.gov/vaxcalendar to find a vaccination event in a community near you. In addition, COVID vaccines will be offered at CDPH immunization clinics throughout the city when they re-open in July.

going door to door, in my opinion, is from a bygone era. People don't answer their door these days. I ran into the Census taker in my apartment building and he said no one answers their door. I can't even imagine how wrong the Census numbers are unless everyone did it online.

Most the trumpist who don't have it, don't want, and aren't going to get it. Showing up unannounced at an armed nutjob's house and trying to talk to them about the vaccine sounds like a recipe for disaster.
