Far-right British commentator Katie Hopkins to be deported after boasting about undermining COVID-19

Source: ABC Australia

Far-right British commentator Katie Hopkins will be deported this afternoon after her visa was cancelled overnight.

Ms Hopkins had been brought to Australia by Channel 7 to join its reality television program Big Brother VIP, but was dropped from the program after boasting about the ways she was undermining the hotel's safety protocols, describing the lockdown as a "hoax".

Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews told ABC News Breakfast Ms Hopkins would be deported.

"I thought it was just shameful, the fact that she was out there boasting about breaching quarantine was just appalling," she said.

6. Really?

You want to be in a country that locks you down in your home and only lets you out for 2 hours a day? Meanwhile, their vaccine program is sluggish. The real kick in the head is that even after multiple lockdowns and extensions of lockdowns, they're still seeing covid spikes.

You think that's admirable?

And even with numerous lockdowns, Australia is seeing multiple spikes. Even before the Delta variant.

13. You're wrong...

We don't get locked in our homes and only get let out for 2 hours a day. Where did you get that from?

Also, most lockdowns are short, sharp ones that had totally suppressed the virus until Gladys dropped the ball by treating Delta the same as the earlier strain of virus. I'd much rather live here than in the US which seems to be full of abject morons who refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated.

The only thing you got right in your post is that the vaccine rollout has been sluggish. Congrats...

29. Delta wasn't treated as seriously as it should have been...

It was treated the same way as the earlier strains and because Delta is so much more transmissible, it got away from contact tracers in Sydney. The NSW govt should have locked down probably nearly a week before they did, but they waited and it quickly got out of hand. Then when they locked down, it was a very vague lockdown-lite where they asked people not to go out if they didn't need to, and weren't clear about what parts of Sydney and surrounds are 'Greater Sydney'. So when people are confused, they just keep on doing what they normally do, which ended up with a lot of positive cases having been active in the community when they shouldn't have been. During that time beaches in Sydney were packed with people, non-essential stores were open, an infected painter travelled from Sydney to Goulburn to work on the hospital because they thought they were an essential worker.

Instead of the generally short, sharp lockdowns other states have done successfully, now Sydney's looking at a very lengthy lockdown until they eradicate the outbreak.

There's a really funny guy on YouTube who imitates the states and lockdown. You may have to live here to get the jokes, but I think it's hilarious

37. Let's hope we never see a vaccine resistant variant...

The Spanish Flu lasted 3 years, so let's hope this goes the same way.

I got led to the Meanwhile In Australia channel by an English guy who does reactions to other channels. He was sitting there watching one of the earlier ones and laughing because all the state borders shut because there was less than 100 cases in Victoria at the time. He was putting it in perspective by pointing out there were thousands of daily cases in the UK.

One of the references in the latest clip was to the WA Premier taking the piss out of the other states by doing a dramatic FB unmasking after a short WA lockdown was successful. Mark McGowan's so popular in WA that the opposition conceded even before the last election had started

on TV and it was rather surprising that after all that death and suffering, it just seemed to go away. I'm not so sure that will be the case with COVID. Variants keep popping up and they seem to be getting worse. It is like a horror film.

Loved that video. Such popularity is almost unheard of. Do you live in Western Australia?

So ACT is an acronym for Australian Capital Territory. Must be kind of strange to be surrounded by a state. Does the ACT have its own governing body, separate from NSW? Reminds me a bit of Washington DC, if it were surrounded on all sides by another state or states.

19. "NSW COVID-19 lockdown extended, remote learning must continue"

The lockdown across large parts of NSW has been extended until the end of the month given the rising number of COVID-19 infections.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said it "hurts to say" but the stay-at-home orders have to be extended for another two weeks until 11:59pm on Friday, 30 July after the state recorded 97 new COVID cases.

This means people in those areas must stay home at all times with the exception of four reasons:

One person per household per day can shop for food or other essential goods and services;
Medical care or compassionate needs (including to get a COVID-19 vaccine)
Exercise outdoors with only one person not from your household
Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home.

You can’t go outside your own home into your own yard. I see this as an order to stay out of public spaces, same as our own lockdown here, last year. In that case, the shelter-in-place orders couldn’t keep me off my own lawn.

28. Nor me. It doesn't support what Yavin4 claimed at all...

Yavin4 said 'You want to be in a country that locks you down in your home and only lets you out for 2 hours a day?'. And when asked where they got that from, they linked to information on the Sydney restrictions that show their claim is wrong. And if your home has a yard or a balcony you can go out there, of course...

Anyway, living here, I do know where they got that from (probably indirectly), and I know for a fact it's wrong. They're referring to Victorian restrictions where there is a 2-hour daily limit on exercise.

What are the rules for exercise?
There is a two-hour limit on exercise, and can only be with one other person, and you must stay within a 5km radius of your home.

And here's the restrictions on leaving home. There's no two-hour limit on leaving home,

When can I leave my house?
You cannot leave your home unless it is for one of five approved reasons.

The reasons are: shopping; authorised work or education; exercise; caregiving, compassionate and medical reasons; and to get vaccinated.

And for more detailed info on lockdowns and state border closures by state and territory: https://www.australia.gov.au/
The Public Health Orders on the govt website say the same thing, but much drier and more wordy.

36. I said you were wrong, because yr so very incorrect...

Yr claim: ''You want to be in a country that locks you down in your home and only lets you out for 2 hours a day?''

Me: I posted a link to the Guardian that explains that we're not locked in our homes and only let out for 2 hours a day. I can go one step further and post links to every state and territory website that shows that we're not locked in our homes. Maybe some pics of people crowding onto Sydney beaches during Gladys' lockdown-lite will have desired effect?

Yr response: 'So, you said that I was wrong, but then you posted quotes where I was correct.'

My question now is: Huh? Point to me in the public health orders for any State or Territory in Australia that says we're locked down in our homes and only lets us out for 2 hours a day.

Let me commend you for being far more knowledgeable of what's going on here than I am. I should stop checking in with my local government website and just check out the situation in Australia with random American fonts-of-all-knowledge when it comes to lockdowns.

Coming from a middling to little city in Australia where the population is pretty compliant with public health orders and we haven't had an active case in the community for over a year despite diplomats regularly coming in and out of the city, I'm curious to know why you have bad feels about our lockdowns. So forgive me for asking the following questions, minus any vaccination questions as I've assumed yr not opposed to vaccinations:

1. Are you anti-mask wearing? Look, my glasses fog up when I wear one, but I'm wearing it to protect myself and my family. Pissing off idiotic anti-mask morons by wearing it is an added incentive to wear it.

2. Do you have a problem with public health orders during a pandemic restricting our movement to control a deadly virus?

3. Are you opposed to vaccine passport type things that will stop moronic American anti-vaccers entering countries like Australia and New Zealand?

4. If covid is running rampant through your community, why would you not want to stay home and stop the spread? There are so many good things about lockdown I love working from home and not having to battle peak hour traffic. The savings in petrol is awesome! I love not having to socialise with people. Example: 'Hello? Oh, hi old school friend. What? You want to meet up with other old school friends I can't remember and talk about old times? I'd love to, but like there's this global pandemic happening, which means I'm safer sitting at home and binge-watching The Crown on Netflix. Let's catch up once the deadly virus is vanquished and we can do a P&O booze cruise through the Pacific and bogan our way through Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia!!

5. Do a comparison of the covid responses of the US and Australia. Compare the case numbers and the number of RW Karen types. Where would you rather live? I think I'm pretty lucky....

Anyway, I'm off to the local medical centre tomorrow for covid jab#2. That's the last of my immediate family fully vaccinated

And you don't answer any questions you're asked. Is there any reason why you couldn't bring yourself to answer them or engage in any rational sort of discussion after being proved wrong on the situation in Australia?

Prisoner in your own home? What the fuck?? Seriously, you get all bothered because people like me like working from home? Care to explain what your issue is with it? I hate commuting. When I WFH I get to sleep in a bit and wear fluffy slippers and make lunch that isn't coming out of a communal fridge that smells like death because someone left their fish stew lunch from 2 weeks ago to fester.

I have no time for anti-mask, anti-vaccine, anti-lockdown wankers who bleat about their personal freedom as though theyre the only people that matter in the world and they don't give a shit about others in their community.

Last year. Nothing stopped me from going outside into the commons/grassy areas. People still had to walk their dogs, etc. You put in a mask and you stayed six feet, or more, away from everyone else.

Again, these shelter-in-place orders are to keep people from confined places, like stores, gyms, theaters, or crowded public places like the beach, etc. They aren’t keeping you from going outside your house or apartment.

The last PM (Abbott) was an uber Christian nutter
2016: Fresh from giving new hope to disaffected conservative Liberals by staying in federal politics, Tony Abbott will fly to the United States on Tuesday to gee-up one of the religious right's most reactionary bodies, the Alliance Defending Freedom.

Mr Abbott, who is being accompanied by wife Margie, will give a speech on the topic of "the importance of family" to the pro-Christian, Republican-aligned lobby, which opposes abortion, wants to end gay marriage and is pushing to roll back some feminist advances.

2015: As PM, Mr Abbott carried out the controversial policy of turning away migrant boats, sending them elsewhere. (Called what Europe was doing, "misguided altruism)

PM Scott Morrison

2021: Scott Morrison’s speech referencing 'evil one' ignites debate over religion and politics

Questions have been raised about the separation of church and state after Prime Minister Scott Morrison angered critics by travelling on a tax-payer funded plane to attend a Christian conference over the weekend.

Speaking at the Australian Christian Convention on the Gold Coast, Mr Morrison admitted he’d been in evacuation centres “where people thought I was just giving someone a hug and I was praying, and putting my hands on people … laying hands on them and praying in various situations.”

Mr Morrison’s comments about social media were also the target of scrutiny after he said it could be used as a weapon by the “evil one”.

2021: Scott Morrison tells Christian conference he was called to do God’s work as prime minister

Australia’s first Pentecostal PM says he practises the tradition of ‘laying on of hands’ while working and calls misuse of social media the work of ‘the evil one’

Im sure that Australia's 915 total covid deaths (or .004%) really leave the average ausse envying the us and our 610,000 total covid deaths (.18%) and our freedom to be forced to go back to low wage jobs or starve.

I bet they look at how even after massive vaccine rollout, our current 7 day average covid death count exceeds their total death count, and really wish they were here, where we got to live through the Trump denial period and had states that never even had so much as a mask mandate.
