Seattle fires two police officers who went to Trump rally, saying they stood by during Jan. 6 U.S.
Source: Seattle Times
Two of six off-duty Seattle police officers who attended a pro-Trump rally that led to the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol in January were fired Friday by interim police Chief Adrian Diaz, who followed the recommendations of an investigation that found they trespassed onto restricted grounds and stood by in the immediate vicinity of an active insurrection.
The dismissals were announced in a posting on the Seattle Police Departments news blotter and came following a recommendation of termination included in a six-month investigation conducted by the Office of Police Accountability released last month.
The two officers have been have been identified as Alexander Everett and Caitlin Rochelle Everett, who are married. The investigation into their actions showed they downplayed their role and likely lied to internal investigators about their actions at the so-called Stop the Steal rally.
Diaz said in a statement that such behavior by sworn law enforcement officers cannot be tolerated.

Of course, trained and experienced cops are valuable, so maybe the RW mayor of Don't Blink or You'll Miss It, ID will try to get away with taking one of them on. Don't Blink would also take on liability exposure it couldn't afford if something happened, though.

(7,275 posts)"Active Insurrection"...... Indeed.
Also, I read somewhere here (I think) cable news channels are now using that term, in addition to the term "coup" as in: "attempted coup". in reference to January 6th.
A very welcomed sign of accuracy in the media.. albeit woefully delayed.
I wonder if the reporter addresses the curious bit about these officers that were fired, were just two out of six officers in total from that department suggesting all six were there in DC involved in someway with the insurrection.
Maybe the other four were merely "observers".
BumRushDaShow
(128,774 posts)and these weren't quotes from politicos but actual media copy (at least on the news radio station here) using the term "insurrection".
Because of the location where it happened, what was going on the day it happened, and the reasons given by the participants for why it was happening, as well as what they were doing to carry out their threats, the media can't keep simply calling it "a riot".
There was a clear agenda to disrupt a critical procedure that would lead to a peaceful transfer of power, with threats to kill duly elected officials, accompanied by violent and ultimately deadly confrontations with LEO.
Hell, I stayed up all night until around 4:30 am watching it to the very end when they did the final certification.

I didn't quite manage to stay up, I tend to hit the wall at about 10 PDT every night, but I was glued to the tv set as soon as I got word something was happening at the Capitol. Frozen with Terror watching on my tv. I couldn't tear away until I finally crashed.
I think I do recall indulging in libations of various sorts, Brandy and a bit of cannabis. Just to calm the eff down, from what felt like a panic attack going full tilt.

(128,774 posts)I was so livid that I was determined to see it through - especially since my own home state was one of the ones that was targeted for objections to the vote certification.
And dammit, it's literally 7 months later and they still haven't given up. This insurrectionist fucker belongs in prison - https://www.pennlive.com/news/2021/08/pa-sen-doug-mastriano-says-he-hopes-to-issue-election-subpoenas-within-2-weeks.html

(7,275 posts)I'm very sensitive to most substances generally speaking, all my life. indulging in alcohol mostly on social occasions. Months could go by without a thought for a glass of wine or a beer. Cannabis only a little more frequently.
But now... really these past nine months for me, I play music sessions nearly every day, and indulge even more frequently.
Playing music is a major plus. The other.... well, dunno but at least the panic attacks have subsided greatly..
Calling it "doing Chill Time" or the Big Chill. I know it isn't original but it delivers chuckles from my friends and music partner.. especially because everyone knows what a lightweight I really am. Especially at my old age.
One downside is I can no longer honestly report to my doctor that I drink a glass or two once or twice a month. Gonna have to come clean on the next physical.
And it's all because of the these Effin A-holes, psychopathic monsters, and plain Stupid that cannot be fixed but has been enabled by the media and powers that be at all ends of law enforcement, Koch Brothers, Federalists Society, et al.
I've literally had it with this insanity, but feeling powerless to do anything about it. Except at the Ballot Box, where the outcome of the Recall Election for Gov. Newsom is at serious risk.
the Recall Election is funded by Newt Gingrich et al. (a number of nefarious actors I think connected with Alec, Koch, Federalists etc)
Coming up real soon too. Gonna need another wee dram, kind sir.

(128,774 posts)I have recently taken to frozen Chambord margaritas although it's been awhile since I last made some. I have one of those Hamilton Beach "WaveStation" blender things that makes smoothies, slushies or frozen drinks (it has a spout where you can set it to dispense once it's done and out comes the slush). I can make a batch to put in a thermos that I keep in the fridge for a couple drinks during the day or the next day. They are perfect when it's hot and we have a little heatwave coming up here next week so I think it's time.
I have a couple SiriusXM radios around the house and keep one on all day just to chill. It's been so damn exhausting that the mental exhaustion literally affects the physical. And I know that it's a decision whether to really follow what is going on closely or just say f-it... But then if I just block it all out and then happen to go out somewhere and stuff gets locked down or restricted or mandates go back into place, then I look like the fool... The situations change so frequently.
Gingrich is the point man behind all the lunacy and he continues to sit back and stir the pot. And the irony is that his wife is STILL the Ambassador to the Vatican, so he is going back and forth there, as s converted purported "Catholic", causing havoc. Biden hasn't replaced her yet but has put a Charges d'Affaires in charge of representing the U.S., so the Gingriches are just there in name only using up taxpayer money.

(7,275 posts)What does Biden think he's accomplishing?
That the Vatican will give him his blessings when the RWNJ Bishops in this country continue to demonize him in Op Ed's insisting Biden be excommunicated and refused communion?
on tax payer dime no less.
I'd love to sample your Chambord Margaritas, maybe I should try this.
On another note.. Speaking for myself, I have spent years plugging into the current state of political affairs, but I don't think quite to the same extent as during tfg's term. By the time the elections happened I was in full state of panic, due to the first calls in favor of tfg.
My first ever full blown panic attack, I had to shut off the tv, which I could barely execute. I couldn't breath, I felt the blood rushing to my head and heart pounding. When I finally managed to get a breath, the first thing I reached for was the only liquor I had on hand,, which was Brandy. But somehow that wasn't really working. So I found a doobie and poured another shot, and then one more was the ticket. I'm a light weight for everything. But I think an elephant tranquilizer would not have helped that night.
I kept the TV off after that night almost completely until a friend called telling me to turn it back on. That was January 6th. I was glued and couldn't turn it off. I was certainly stressed to the max but not quite to the point of election night. I definitely indulged, mightily just the same.
I also unsubscribed from Sling which I was paying $35 a month streaming MSNBC and CNN. I no longer watch anything or listen to any radio. I come here to DU and learn just about thing I need to know regarding current events, state of our elections which I'm getting a little panicky over, and the rest. I have to take these measures to tune out talking heads, the whataboutists pundit class and the endless stories of voter suppression which means I couldn't even handle Rachael anymore.
I'm mostly in better spirits comparatively. Playing music again really is a huge benefit to my mental health, but so is cutting off the news media machine, not necessarily completely... just the cable crap.
Tomorrow I'm going shopping for a "Wave Station" to make me some Chambord Margaritas! yummy.
P.S. is Chambord a brand or more of a recipe method?

(128,774 posts)the Ambassadors tend to be the "worldly" big donors or loyal friends as "thank you" positions. The diplomatically-experienced appointees and civil servants end up generally running the office operations at the embassies. I did see Callista is finally calling herself " former U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See". Yet they were both over there at the end of last month and everything on her twitter page is covered with papal stuff.
I am a CSPAN junky so unless there is something that breaks, I haven't even turned the TV on even though there is a big "to watch" list that I have. I have been debating just cutting the cord but then I know eventually "this too shall pass" and I would eventually shift back into more of a semblance of "normal" although obviously not a real "normal".
I do turn on my local news radio station in the morning when I get up and in the afternoon before dinner just to catch up on what is going on locally. But I am mostly "reading" the news - papers/news magazines and DU. In fact DU's LBN was what really drew me here thanks to being a news aggregation site (they used to have links to most of the liberal blogs on the front page back in the page too). And since I do sub to a bunch of papers and news magazines like the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Tribune, The Atlantic, and Mother Jones, I can help to contribute to providing that news by posting breaking news in LBN.
Regarding Chambord - it's a brand of raspberry liquor produced in France. It has a cool-looking bottle -
There are tons of cocktails that use it. In fact I think the first time I had it was during a work trip about 25 years ago when going to dinner with some of my coworkers, where a couple were ordering "PBJs" (peanut butter and jelly shots that were 3/4 oz Chambord and 3/4 oz Frangelico hazelnut liqueur).
So much you can do with it but for a frozen Chambord margarita, I have used this recipe that works well -
4 oz tequilla
3 oz simple syrup
2 oz lime juice
2 oz Chambord
1 oz Cointreau (or other Triple sec orange liqueur)
2 full cups ice
Makes 2 drinks and it doesn't have to be done as a frozen coctail - but that is what I had a few years ago for the first time during a Kentucky Derby/Cinco de Mayo outing at a Mexican restaurant near me, with my sisters and some friends, and I was hooked. At bars/restaurants, they usually make it as a regular frozen margarita and then drizzle the Chambord into it and do a quick swirl, so it looks sortof like this -
or this -
I just pour it all in the WaveStation and let it go!
I sometimes make some extra to put in a bigger thermos. I had bought a bag of limes when they were on sale and spent time juicing them all and freezing 1 oz portions (you can do them in ice cube trays or I actually had a pack of little 2oz condiment containers with lids that i filled and froze). I keep them in my freezer and can pull some out to use in all sorts of recipes that want "fresh" lime juice.

(7,275 posts)gonna capture these images on my phone and use your recipes for my up coming birthday celebration. And perhaps Christmas, New Years and July 4th!
Great idea about freezing lime juice. I do that when I make pesto. Harvest the basil and add a little minced garlic and olive oil, when it's all nicely blended/puree'd, I then pour into ice trays or small containers and put in the freezer so I have "fresh" pesto on hand when needed. Great ideas.
I do hope Biden's Ambassadors are clearing out tfg's traitors and Russian agents. Gotta know intuitively our Embassies are rife with active moles and Russian "sleeper" agents, as well as the State Dept for that matter.
I know I've watched too many spy movies (just finished The Game on Hoopla along with SS-GB and The Night Watchman on Prime) but they all seem to have the main themes based in reality.. and a life long John Le Carre reader. (it's all his fault)
Speaking of spies and rogue elements, I'm very interested in what Rosen has to reveal regarding Clark. I mean, beyond what we already knew in terms of wanting to fire Rosen and the top DOJ officials. I'm wondering if there's enough to bring conspiracy charges? Going to be a big stain on the Federalists Society one would hope. Subject for a completely different thread!
Thanks for the discussion and the great recipes!
By the way, I used to be an avid C-Span viewer. But it isn't carried on Roku streaming unfortunately. At least not last time I checked.

(128,774 posts)and I started 4 different basils from seed this past spring (Genovese, Italian large leaf, Thai, and Holy) and have some nice plants in my vegtrug (a raised bed unit) and have done the frozen pesto in the past too. I actually made some kao pad gaprao gai kai dao (Holy basil stir fried chicken with rice and a fried egg) yesterday afternoon using my Holy basil.
My fear has been the "embedded" booby traps that are most likely sitting all over the government in Schedule-C-appointee-converted-to-civil service positions. It just feels like some of the missteps that I see happening from some circles (including CDC) are coming from those misinformation master employees.
Hoping they can be rooted out and "convinced" to depart.

(7,275 posts)Have you read up on Rosen?
if not, have a quick Wiki looksie:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_A._Rosen
I no longer share enthusiasm for his "willingness" to testify regarding Trump's attempt for DOJ to involve in his conspiracy to overturn the elections a la Clark et al.
I wasn't up on this guy's background. Dude is a cover up concierge among other things.
I'm actually surprised he didn't get involved in the coup attempt. But I guess, like Barr, this was just one crime they couldn't bring themselves to participate in.
Think of Rosen like I think of Barr. Birds of the same feather.

I agree that there may be a buzz that they're aware of, and it's credible enough for them to change course.
They went from "riot", to " insurrection " to "coup".
Why?
msfiddlestix
(7,275 posts)I don't think that's what they called it exactly, but something to that effect.
I sort of figured well, that sure as hell ain't gonna have a repeat so soon, at a point where everyone is on "high alert" presumably.
So I dismissed that one, and then a more recent announcement that the date was changed for September.
So I'm thinking, well of course they changed the date. And they'll have to keep changing the date until they're all rounded up and put in the clanger.
But maybe these yahoos threatened something worse. The only possible reason I can think of.
And the Media KNOWS it will get full on share of the blame for refusing to give the deadly seriousness of January 6th in their daily reporting, by accurately naming what the hell took place.
Something to that effect. But who the hell knows. It would be interesting to get insight from inside sources in the cable news industry.
It would be nice if the title of the article was somewhat accurate instead of intentionally misleading.
The officers weren't fired for attending the rally. They were fired for trespassing onto the Capitol grounds (a crime) during the active insurrection (another crime).
The title is all of a story which a lot of people read. And readers of that title would inaccurately conclude that the officers were unfairly fired for simply attending a political rally, in violation of their Constitutional right of free assembly.
And those readers will simply tsk at how unfair the city is being to the police officers for being political supporters of Trump and turn the page of the newpaper.
msfiddlestix
(7,275 posts)Makes it seem as if the paper's editors were sympathetic to the insurrectionists.
We've seen quite a lot of sympathetic ink in favorable terms for the bad guys over the years.
It would almost be news worthy if otherwise with some publications.

They had no jurisdiction to enforce any laws in DC either. They, more than likely, had no weapons or other police tools.
