Target has announced that it will begin paying the college tuition and textbook expenses for its US-based part-time and full-time employees who attend select schools.
Starting as early as their first day on the job, more than 340,000 employees at Target stores and distribution centers will now be able to choose from 250 programs at over 40 schools and universities across the country, and they won't have to pay a dollar, Target said in a news release.
Target said it will also pay up to $10,000 a year for master's programs within its available network of schools, which include the University of Arizona, Oregon State University and historically Black colleges and universities like Morehouse College and Paul Quinn.
Along with associates and undergraduate degrees, employees will also have access to numerous certificates and boot camp programs, according to the release.

(15,771 posts)I cant imagine the customers will pay every penny. It could be quite a lot. Plus, I think target is looking at the ability to write it off in taxes.

Imagine Target paying for someone to do their four year college, and then that person can either go to med school or law school...I cannot see the negative of any of it.
Does anyone have a list of the schools they will support?

(435 posts)Often the corporation will require you to work for them for years. And if you are laid off or fired one day before the contract expires then you must pay all the money back along with the all of the accumulated interest. This is the new serfdom. You are better off getting a college loan then be tied down to a serfdom contract.
