Prolonged period of 'potentially dangerous heat' becoming more likely for the Northwest, weather

Source: CNN

service warns

More than 260 million people in the United States are forecast to experience highs of at least 90 degrees by the end of this week as a new heat wave envelops the Northwest, threatening the region with record-breaking, dangerous temperatures.

"There is increasing confidence in another prolonged stretch of exceptionally hot weather by mid to late next week, and potentially as early as Tuesday across portions of the Pacific (Northwest)," warned the National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon.

Other regions are also expected to sweat it out with the above-average temperatures, with the central United States experiencing it early in the week, and then the Northeast by the middle of the week.

In total, more than 60 daily records could be broken nationwide by next weekend.

1. I'm so sick of this summer. Bring on the Fall and Winter and please let there be

plenty of rain and snow for the mountains.

13. We don't normally have to start feeding hay to our sheep

before end of August to mid September.

This year we had to start in mid July. As dry as a popcorn fart up here and scary firewise.

5. I used to love summer living in the north but 90deg 90% humidity days make me wish

the summers away plus winters have been on the mild side the last decade or so.

11. We live pretty much dead center in WA state about 20 miles from the border

elevation 2900 ft. Been keeping records of the weather at our place for the past 15 years. First year EVER that we have gotten into triple digits. Most years we've had a couple of days in the low 90s. This year we've had over a week of temps in the mid to upper 90s and that's before the coming heat event.

As far as precipitation goes, fuggedaboutit........total since the end of February less than 3 inches. Nothing for any animals to graze on and the ranchers are pulling their cattle off the upper elevations and taking them back down to feed them hay.

All dryland grains, legumes, and peas are going down the sh*tter. You think food prices have been rising up till now, take a look at your household budget and shift some extra money towards groceries cause you ain't seen nothin' yet.

9. These high pressure systems settle over parts of the US every

summer for weeks on end. Sure lived through my share of them while residing in eastern PA They don't usually settle in the northwest, but they aren't unusual weather events.
