Georgia board to review Fulton elections, takeover possible

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia's Republican-controlled State Election Board plans to take a step Wednesday toward a possible eventual takeover of elections in the state's most populous county that critics argue could open elections up to political interference.

Fulton County, a Democratic bastion that includes most of the city of Atlanta, has long been the target of Republican lawmakers' ire. Their attacks only increased after former President Donald Trump and his allies made unfounded claims that fraud in the county contributed to his narrow loss in the state. An independent monitor found no evidence of fraud or impropriety.

GOP lawmakers last month asked the state board to appoint a performance review panel to investigate Fulton County's handling of elections. The requests initiated a process outlined in the state's sweeping new election law that could allow the Republican-controlled state board to replace the county's board of registration and elections with an administrator it chooses.

The Republican lawmakers who asked for the review said they want to ensure that election officials in the county, which is home to about 11% of the state's electorate, have been following state voting laws and regulations. Democrats and voting rights activists have said the new takeover provision could allow political interference in local elections.

Wonder why there are not thousands of protesters outside their studios.

Wonder why any corporation or business based in Atlanta is NOT being boycotted to bankruptcy.

Look, these racist, dipshit Retrumplicans are NOT open to reason and compromise.

They only understand punishment. It's way past time to start punishing the radio stations and businesses that enable this authoritarian bullshit.

I also think many believe the courts will never allow this. That’s a toss up.

The sad truth is that trump brought to the forefront, the real America, a country that gives an illusion of freedom and equality.
If this country was as great as they have led the world to believe, someone like trump would never have held office, let alone gotten away with the evilness and hatred espoused during his time in the oval office.

Republicans are going to open Pandora's box if their attacks on minorities continue, we are very well aware of history and have no intention of repeating it or living under apartheid.

Trump helped them accelerate it. With state Republicans in charge in Fulton, we can expect to see voter registrations tossed out for no reason other than the color of peoples’s skin but with some flimsy excuse given. Or they’ll refuse it based on some minor issue they make up and say the person can try to register again—so no discrimination. Close to an election, they will not be processed at all—just as Kemp did as Secretary of State when he ran for governor and held thousands of registrations so those people could not vote. Those who vote by mail will find their ballots rejected because their signatures were not a perfect match to the one on file. It’s fact that no person signs their name exactly the same way every time. That’s one way to find a forged signatures because they are exactly the same, as in photocopies. I doubt I can even imagine all the ways they will disenfranchise minorities.

If Republicans get away with this, we may never reclaim fair elections. I no longer trust the Sc or Congress to fix this mess.

The bastards are like termites, silently eating away the structure of our home. Our nation will not go down with a bang, but a whimper.
