Gov. Ivey urges Alabama football fans to get vaccinated

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) is urging college football fans to get vaccinated before heading to stadiums this season. If everybody would just get the vaccine we wouldn't have a problem. Simply get the shot, then go enjoy your football game, Ivey told reporters after participating in an event with college mascots on the steps of the Alabama Capitol.
Dr. Scott Harris, Alabamas state health officer, said the state Department of Public has issued guidance on sporting events including recommending spacing and emphasizing the importance of vaccinations. Outdoor events are safer in general than indoor event, but having hundreds of thousands of people getting together during a pandemic is going to result in some disease transmission," Harris said. We hope people are vaccinated enough that that can be minimized.
College football kicks off in a few weeks, raising concerns that crowded stadiums could help spread the coronavirus. Asked about those concerns this week, the Republican governor said the remedy is for more people to get vaccinated.

Alabama has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the U.S. with 34.6% of the population fully vaccinated. The state has seen a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths that medical officials have attributed to the highly contagious delta variant and the state's low vaccination rate.

(8,571 posts)She did not hear MAGAs boo Trump for mentioning shots in KKKlansville Bama last night. Teams outside of Bama, Florida, and Texas should not allow traveling fans. Wanna piss off some Bama MAGAs? NCAA rules state if you have to cancel a game because too many players have covid, you forfeit the game. Bama again ranked number one, but any loss in National standings is devastating. How cool will it be that trump rally MAGAs cause Bama to be eliminated from post season. FreeDumb!!!! Yee haw! Do not allow a single MAGA rally attendee a second of hospital space. Fuck em. Die! And hurry up before football starts.

And I'll bet that unless there's a health reason, the one holdout is not going to be on the playing roster and is being tested before each practice.

(8,571 posts)Just keep their fans in state. Same with Florida and Texas. When Sabin tells ya to do it, players shut up and do it. Beginning in September, college and pro games may push out health care Nationwide to collapse. Maybe Sabin should have been asking instead of IVY. Think I may have seen him do it some. Lots of people will die by Christmas. ORielly and the Baby Jesus will be outraged at this war on Christmas. Horse wormer will be a number one gift.

Healthy and in their 30s, Christina and Josh Tidmore figured they were low-risk for COVID-19. With conflicting viewpoints about whether to get vaccinated against the virus filling their social media feeds and social circles, they decided to wait.
On July 20, Josh came home from work with a slight cough initially thought to be sinus trouble. On Aug. 11, he died of COVID-19 at a north Alabama hospital as Christina Tidmore witnessed a doctor and her team frantically try to resuscitate her husband.
She would say, I need a pulse. I would hear, no pulse, Christina Tidmore said through tears. They were trying so hard.
Nobody should go through this. He was only 36 and Im 35 and we have three kids.
