US Covid cases among children have surged to one of its highest rates of the pandemic. Experts warn it may get worse

(CNN)Last week, the number of Covid-19 cases in children in the US reached levels not seen since the winter surge. And with the return to school, the Delta variant on the rise and winter approaching, health officials are concerned it could get worse.

After a decline in early summer, child cases have increased exponentially -- with more than a four-fold increase in the past month, according to the latest report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association.
From about 38,000 cases a week near the end of July, the week ending August 19 saw more than 180,000 cases in children, the report said.

The rise has come as 48.4% of the population is yet to be fully vaccinated, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and as the average of daily new reported cases rises to more than 151,000...............................................................

In all seriousness, someone--some entity has to get the courts involved and hope they side with the health of the kids.

I read an article yesterday saying that docs are discovering long term effects of covid on kids may be as serious or worse than adults.

My daughter the doctor is furious with the CDC and others have left the development of childhood vaccines for the last!!!! The American Pediatrics Assn. should have called for it? Our kids in America are last in line. Meanwhile parents and grandparents have to live with fear and anxiety!

9. It's the right ethical thing to do. Let the adults' fully developed systems check it out first

Imagine that there were some unknown mortalitiy effect in the vaccine.

Seems you (and your daughter) are saying that it should have been tested on children at the same times as adults so that if it was too strong or had a hidden illness lurking in it, then the children should suffer and die along with the adults at the same time.

Uh-uh no.

Further, ... the dose had to be adjusted by trials. Your daughter (and you) are suggesting childrens' doses should have been tried and adjusted at the same time we were seeing if adults would die at those dose.

10. It's the SAME vaccine. Further, children have generally not been getting ill or dying at adult rates

There is NO childhood vaccine for Covid-19. There are different dosages that had to be trialed for safety, and then for efficacy.

If it were reversed and children were dying at high rates while seniors were coasting, ... then yes, children's trials would have been put at the front.

But . that's . not . the . case.
