Interior Secretary Deb Haaland married her longtime partner Skip Sayre on Saturday night in New Mexico, according to a statement from Interior Department spokeswoman Melissa Schwartz.
Schwartz told The Associated Press that Haaland's wedding dress was designed and sewn by her sister, with parts of the ceremony honoring her Native American ancestry.
Among the guests were Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Rep. Sharice Davids (D-Kan.), according to Albuquerque's The Paper.
In the statement, Schwartz said the wedding complied with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on COVID-19 safety, as well as rules in the state of New Mexico.
Consistent with CDC guidance and New Mexicos public health orders, guests were required to be vaccinated and wear masks while indoors. The reception took place in an open air venue, the statement reads.
