Student taken into custody hours after Texas school shooting

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — An 18-year-old student opened fire during a fight at his Dallas-area high school on Wednesday, injuring four people and then fleeing before being taken into custody hours later, authorities said.

Timothy George Simpkins was taken into custody without incident, the Arlington Police Department tweeted. He was booked in the Arlington jail on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was being held on $75,000 bail.

One person was in critical condition, another was in good condition and a third person was treated for minor abrasions and was scheduled to be released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon, police said. A fourth person was hurt but did not require treatment at a hospital. Police said earlier that three of the four injured were students.

The shooting at Timberview High School, which is in Arlington but belongs to the school district in neighboring Mansfield, stemmed from a fight that broke out in a classroom, Arlington Assistant Police Chief Kevin Kolbye said at news conference before Simpkins’ arrest.

...and, as usual the school system didnt give a fuck.

I'm not making excuses for this kid or justifying his actions.

The student shooter brought a loaded gun into the classroom and then when an argumement broke out he pulled out his gun and started shooting. Will he get away with stand your ground?

Meaning that the other kid pulled a knife and was going to stab him. (Oh, wait, I saw that justified in the last year--or, even worse, discounted as trivially unimportant and even disrespectful to mention. So never mind. Doesn't count.)

Perhaps if the other kid pulled out a gun.

Then, of course, there's the problem that bearing firearms on TX school property is a felony (unless it's part of your professional duty; police officers, on and off duty, can wear them--because they're subject to be called to active duty at any time with a phone call or the right context).

On February 14, 2018, a shooter opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people and injuring 17 others. The shooter allegedly fled the scene on foot by blending in with other students.

17. Another Idea about Walking Through a Metal Detector at High Schools...It Ain't Cheap..

Someone must be there to make sure that everyone walks through, and someone must police the detector, if
the machine detects a gun...or something...anything, is suspicious.......

No...It ain't cheap to pay for people to stand at a detector all day...when people enter...and make sure there
are no guns or weapons....Lots and lots of money.....FOR ALL 60.. OR SO PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS....
...................BUT ....NO SHOOTINGS AT CHICAGO PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS..................(not yet anyway)

............Millions & millions of dollars each year...for security...(probably much more..You decide if it is worth it.)

...............No shootings....at Chicago Public High Schools.....everyone knows it is illegal to bring a gun to a
high school and if someone brings a gun at entrance that person will be arrested.................
