Arlington school shooting suspect released on bond

Source: CBS Austin

The family of the 18-year-old student suspected in an Arlington high school shooting Wednesday claims he was bullied and tried to protect himself.

Four people were wounded at Timberview High School in the Mansfield Independent School District near Dallas-Fort Worth.

Three people are expected to survive while one 15-year-old is in critical condition.

Timothy Simpkins turned himself in to police after the incident. He was released on bond the next day.

...

Simpkins faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into the Tarrant County Lon Evans Correction Center on a $75,000 bond. He has posted bail and was released as of Thursday afternoon.

he was allowed to post bond because he is black. if he was a white kid, like Rittenhouse, he'd still be in jail.

He’s justified to end conflicts with a gun. Shame on his parents. How does he get a gun into his school these days? Yep..I agree..it’s Texas and not much shocks me, either.

Charge both parents as accessories and give them harsh jail sentences. I don't know if that would work in a case like this when the kid is 18.

…every bully in the nation’s schools better stop their actions immediately.

A better way to end bullying, than to shoot the bully, is for schools to do their fucking jobs and take bullying seriously.

The idea that everyone has to sit in pre-trial detention is ludicrous and anti-democratic.

Good on the judge .

We have a pre-trial detention fetish and it is STUPID and CRUEL.

Get over it. Be better.

Found an adult who brought a gun to school and shot 3 people is not a threat, and need not remain behind bars. Wow, that’s saying something about Texas. This is a violent crime. Not possession of pot, not prostitution, not writing bad checks, not shoplifting, not possession of stolen goods, this is about an adult (18 years old) who brought a gun to school and shot 3 people.

release people who have been charged with murder. Many times they are already out on bail for the same crime.

This kid didn't kill anyone, and is on house arrest and has an ankle monitor, and has other restrictions. If he does one thing, he will be tossed into jail. He committed a crime, and will almost positively serve 5-20 years, but he has a right to easily meet with counsel.

Don't get me started about "cash" bail. It means only the rich and some few others with privilege can spring themselves out of jail.

Not for lack of trying. He shot 3 people in a school. To me, that is the definition of both dangerous and reckless.
