Arlington school shooter PARTIES at home after being freed while his victims remain in hosp.
Source: Mag Grand
The teenage student who fired gunshots in an Arlington, Texas, school on Wednesday hosted a party at home with his family after being freed on a $75,000 bond. Meanwhile, the teenage shooters victims, a 25-year-old teacher and a 15-year-old boy, are still in the hospital, with one of them clinging to life.

(15,220 posts)Texan here. Cant believe the absolute absurdity of this. Makes me fume.
I cannot believe that this guy is out and free when he is obviously a threat. Are they wanting him to go back and finish what he started? Good grief!

(11,008 posts)I don't recall saying he was right. I don't recall saying he was justified. I just said that there was more to the story when someone posted a spurious link to gin up outrage at the scary black kid.

(8,200 posts)Orrex
(63,203 posts)I note, incidentally, that your use of outrage in this context is akin to accusations of defensiveness or taking it personally. That is, its a slimy word intended to shift the focus from the issue at hand (i.e., the person who brought a gun to school and shot three people) to whether or not the other party in the discussion is outraged.
And perhaps you can explain how his skin color, which you apparently find scary, is in any way relevant to the fact that he brought a gun to school and shot three people.
Your fixation on dubious extenuating circumstances is very reminiscent of a shady defense attorney questioning the character of an assault victim. What extenuating circumstances are relevant here, in your enlightened view? And how?
AZSkiffyGeek
(11,008 posts)I think it's awful that there is another shooting. I also think it's awful that someone posts a link from some random website in Togo providing an unsourced story that the family was partying afterward.
I've also questioned the affluenza argument that is being made as to why he was able to post bail since he doesn't look like the usual rich white kid that gets those breaks.
Finally, I've questioned whether he is an imminent threat of going back to finish the job since he a) was responding to a specific incident, and b) turned himself in.
I've also expressed surprise that the Texas cops didn't gun him down because he isn't a rich white kid.
And "outrage" was used in response to the clickbait article's tone, not any posters.
All I'm saying is there is nuance, it's still horrible, a tragedy and whatever other words you want to use about the continued proliferation of guns in schools but there is more nuance than Sandy Hook or Stoneman Douglas.
This shooting does not fit the usual profile.

(19,850 posts)handled by the schools. My kids graduated from high school last year and I can tell you their elementary, middle, and high schools didn't handle bullying. The schools had all of the policies/et al and talked up a good program, BUT they never did anything to actually curtail bullying.

(11,008 posts)But claiming affluenza is why Texas police let a black teen out on bail doesn't pass the smell test for me. As is assuming that said black teen is going to go back and finish the job because he was let out on bail.
That's all my point is. He did something horrible and should be punished to the maximum.
But I'm seeing a lot of assumptions about him and what was done because of the words "school shooting."

This guy needs to do some time to reorganize his thinking. If the kid he shot dies, he needs to do a LOT of time.
I got bullied in high school and got my ass kicked a couple of times. I didn't shoot any people.

(30,809 posts)It's part of our human nature to establish a pecking order. We adults control those inclinations (most of us), but children are ruled by their instincts.
There has been a lot of increased awareness in the schools I've taught in over the last decade or so about spotting and reporting bullying. We're all on the lookout for it. Unfortunately, kids are very good at hiding their bad behavior. As a high school teacher, bullying could be going on right in the classroom and I might now know it. At that age, there are 'looks', whispers, cryptic comments, and cell phone messages that can inflict damage, and none of the kids involved want to tell the teacher, including the victim.
Fights are very visible though, and administrators are in charge of figuring out who attacked who and whether or not bullying is happening or if the kids are just mad at each other over something. It's not easy.
knightmaar
(748 posts)... I understand the rage.
When they're allowed to hurt you repeatedly without any consequence?
When it's so bad, you just wake up somewhere else with a sore face and no one explains what happened to you?
And no teacher apparently even knows what happened *inside* a classroom?
I don't know if what happened to this guy was that bad, or if he and his family are bullshitting us, but there are consequences to administrators who shrug off violence with "Boys will be boys". Especially in a culture with readily available firearms.
I never went off and got a gun, or even a weapon of any kind, but I did have to beat a guy up to make it stop.
Because no one else would do anything.

(22,632 posts)It was not unusual for the principal or the vice principal to call me, a senior at the time, to the office, then send me to her where the bullying was taking place. This was usually the girls bathroom where she was locked in a stall. She had been literally backed into the place while her bullies were pounding on the stall door yelling and taunting her. She was always crying and terrified while these evil girls, aside from also being idiots, were relentless.
I never hit anyone and the thought never crossed my mind, but the tongue lashings I dispensed have been deemed legendary and were always effective. The question I have looking back, is why couldn't or wouldn't the adults, in this case principal and vice principal, do anything?
It doesn't seem that things have changed, much less improved, when it comes to remedies and interventions for this problem that in my sister's case was more than thirty years ago. Indeed things, as evidenced in this incident, have gotten much, much worse.

(1,666 posts)Maybe if schools took bullying seriously, bullies wouldnt get shot. The school failed him and his parents failed him (if the gun was theirs). Now he can look forward to being bullied in prison the rest of his life while his highschool bullies grown and enjoy life.
Maybe theyll write him letters asking him how he enjoys his days in general population. Guess nobody told him after a high school is over, none of that shit matters; especially if you are already rich. He has a smooth sailing life ahead of him. Now he gets to be bullied until his dying day.
Maybe schools should take it more seriously and expel the bullies instead of allowing it to go on until lives are destroyed.

Has nothing to do with this young mans guilt or not.
Maybe its shocking to see that black families show love? They must be partying. They could not possibly be making sure he is supported and loved.
How did the writer know he got angry? Have they interrogated him? Did the police tell them that?
Trashy journalism, if you can call it that. I think that might be insulting to real journalists.
