Jan. 6 committee to seek criminal charges after Bannon defies subpoena
Source: Axios
Trump ally Steve Bannon failed to show up for a deposition before the Jan. 6 select committee on Thursday, paving the way for the House panel to seek criminal charges against him for defying a congressional subpoena.
Why it matters: It's the first major test for how the committee will respond to witnesses' refusal to cooperate, an obstacle that stalled countless Democratic investigations during the Trump era by triggering protracted legal battles.
What they're saying: "Mr. Bannon has declined to cooperate with the Select Committee and is instead hiding behind the former Presidents insufficient, blanket, and vague statements regarding privileges he has purported to invoke. We reject his position entirely," committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said in a statement.
"The Select Committee will not tolerate defiance of our subpoenas, so we must move forward with proceedings to refer Mr. Bannon for criminal contempt. Ive notified the Select Committee that we will convene for a business meeting Tuesday evening to vote on adopting a contempt report."

(9,998 posts)I'm sorry, but I just don't.
I'll gladly admit how completely wrong I was, should ANY of these guys get arrested and taken to jail.
It's all a Dog & Pony show, so far as I'm concerned. Delay, Delay, Delay, Delay, rinse and repeat.
Meanwhile, the Democracy which once existed, is fading in the rear view mirror. Never to be seen again.

(13,903 posts)the fascist lush found and arrested, then his attorneys will promptly start filing motions about divine right of kings, executive privilege, pardons, blah, blah, blah.
Bannon may get dried out while setting in a cell, more likely he will be out on bail.
After all the dust settles and the issues wind their way through the courts, the lush will sit himself down in front of the committee and take the 5th.
