PULLMAN, Wash. -- Nick Rolovich is out as the Washington State football coach after refusing to become vaccinated for COVID-19, a requirement for all state employees, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Monday was the deadline for state employees to become fully vaccinated or receive an approved medical or religious exemption as part of a state mandate that was announced in August. Rolovich was seeking a religious exemption, but it is not yet clear how the university committee assigned to evaluate religious exemptions ruled.

Last summer he said he'd get vaccinated if told to, and then filed near the end of the cut-off for a religious exemption
I went to WSU and am not sorry he is gone

Football worship is like religion...a handy way to express aggression against a tribe of people you do not know.
Still...Rolovich clearly has no respect for the health of his players or his staff. Let him find a job at a Jeebus college.

"Football worship is like religion...a handy way to express aggression against a tribe of people you do not know."
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYUM! And it automatically includes the dynamic of passive-aggressive participation. You-the-fan get to be part of it in comfort - no muss/no fuss! All you have to do is sit there in front of your TV or sit there in the bleachers, watching and yelling and eating snacks and drinking beer or some other beverage. In effect, YOU Get the easy part. YOU don't ever risk serious bodily injury on the gridiron with all these big burly players wearing big burly equipment piling on top of you, in organized brutality, to make you stop whatever you were trying to do that they didn't want to allow.
No wonder it's so popular. No muss/no fuss warfare.

(2,262 posts)His contract for this year was for 2.875. The remaining 3 years are for $3 million each and this would be termination for cause which would void those years.
Stupidity has a price

State government is TERRIBLE at defending their labor contracts. Pretty good chance he will reach a rich settlement.

(257 posts)I am a Coug, and while I am sorry about Rolo's fate, his statement that it was out of his hands, was exactly wrong...It was totally in his hands to get the vaccine and he blew it for the team and several other coaches. With several different family members and friends having caught Covid recently and being hospitalized, including little kids with no choice in the matter... I am totally out of patience with the anti-vax anti mask crowd.
That said "Go Cougs!"

(1,910 posts)He was a mediocre coach at Hawaii and a mediocre coach at Wash State. Typical white guy connected former player who got job after job despite being a .500 coach for his career. They can simply plug in another connected good old boy and no one will know the diff.
