N.J. governor race still too close to call. Murphy, Ciattarelli waiting for all votes to be counted.

The bitter race for New Jersey governor didn’t end on Election Day.

In a shocker, the contest, once seen as a shoo-in for Gov. Phil Murphy, remained too close to call early Wednesday morning, with results so far showing the Democratic governor and Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli less than a percentage point apart as the clock passed midnight.

Both campaigns cleared out of their Election Night parties with neither declaring victory or conceding, and it’s possible a winner may not be known for a day or so. Just after 2:30 a.m., with 87% of the vote in, Ciattarelli was leading Murphy by about 1,600 votes, according to totals from the Associated Press. Each candidates were carrying about 49.6% of the vote at that time.

But thousands of votes — especially from Democratic-leaning areas — have yet to be counted. It’s unclear how many are vote-by-mail or provisional ballots that still have to be tallied.

(R) are hyper in their use of social media, smart phones, robo-calls, personal calls, churches, business circles/marketing and contacts, outreach, fundraisers, party apparatus. I've had personal calls from Republicans, immediately Nov 2020, appealing for me to help flip the Senate. We are not as well organized. We don't live it 24/7. We don't contact most of our voters until the election is 2 months out, I think. We make last-minute, surprise robocalls.

Our social fabric is so successful it's regarded as blase and below the radar? So Republicans steal it and privatize it and tweak it for themselves? Perhaps. We need to stand for something. Our message is muddled.

Democrats have no enthusiasm to vote without Trump in office & on the ballot.

The country isn't just Republicans and Democrats. It isn't just a question of what proportion of each are energized to get out of bed and vote.

There are tens of millions of people who are neither Republican nor Democrat... and their votes are up for grabs. Almost every single one of them was offended enough by Trump to never vote for him... but if he isn't on the ballot we can't count on their votes.

we need to back away from trying to explain wokeness, CRT, or de-fund the police.

We can't say things like "Parents shouldn't have a say in their child's education".

And we should NOT BE SEEN fighting among ourselves over the BBB bill plus Infrastructure Bill. Those bills need to get all ironed out long before the press starts sniffing around for a process story. The progressives may have sat on their hands this election because of the promise of what was in the BBB bill before Manchin and Sinema gutted it. Done right the messaging should have been only "look as what we are doing for the middle class in America". The actual list of issues was very popular, even in some red states.

Couple all that with the anti-vax and anti-mask crowd and people just being tired of Covid-19... and it was a perfect recipe for a "shellacking"... not that either governor race was a huge loss and NJ is likely to be a win... but it shouldn't have been that close.

I hope this is a wake up call for a year from now.

You simply aren't going to explain to defend these things that have taken hold in the KuKluxGOP with mounds of misinformation. The best we can do is say "CRT... nope we aren't going to teach that in our K-12 schools... we should instead say things like "I agree that CRT should not be taught in our k-12 school systems" (leaving it open for public universities and community colleges) and "we need to increase police funding by reducing the number of calls they respond to, by taking some domestic dispute and probable mental health calls and providing the police with people trained in how to de-escalate these situations, thereby making the community a safer place for everyone. We should treat everyone with respect and value their rights".

But instead we tried to explain what CRT IS and explain that it ISN'T being taught to anyone not in college right now. They are not interested in what it is... only that they are told it's evil and the communist Democrats are pushing it. We tried to tell people that "de-fund the police" was just a slogan and what we really mean is blah blah blah".

We cannot use logic with these moronic voters. We have to appeal not to logic, but what makes them feel good.

We are allowing our tiny nonvoting Twitter mob drive us off a cliff

Somehow we have lost the working class. That is who is voting against us. We are the becoming the party of rich out of touch elites.

For almost 2 years has been incredibly unpopular in NJ.

I saw this coming. He’s lost the suburbs. He’s lost the moderates. He’s ruled NJ based solely on what works best for North Jersey cities since Covid started.

.

Draw a line from the two cities and go 12 miles to the East & 12 Miles to the West.

Most of the Republican-leaning counties are already in, or close to it.

The high-density areas that lean for the Democrats are still are only 88-95% in.
