DeSantis signs bills blocking Biden administration COVID vaccine mandates in Florida
Source: Sarasota Herald-Tribune
TALLAHASSEE Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law Thursday measures countering the Biden administrations vaccine-or-test requirement for larger businesses, which he drove Florida's Republican-led Legislature to endorse.
Nobody in Florida should be losing their jobs over these jabs, DeSantis said at a signing ceremony in the Hillsborough County community of Brandon.
Florida Democrats had derided DeSantis' call for a special session this week, saying it was largely a political stage for the governor to enhance his national image with conservative voters.
But the laws enacted Thursday are designed to blunt any vaccine mandate from taking effect in Florida, whether coming from the federal government or cities and counties. They also bolster DeSantis' position in his long-running opposition to mask requirements in schools.

The Mouse will not be pleased.

"Article VI, Paragraph 2 of the U.S. Constitution is commonly referred to as the Supremacy Clause. It establishes that the federal constitution, and federal law generally, take precedence over state laws, and even state constitutions.

(4,128 posts)...every day. And he knows they are doing so but is helpless, no matter what laws, fines, etc. he talks about, to do anything about it. Heck, I say he's a coward for not advancing lawsuits against the defiant, starting with Disney and all the cruise lines, airlines, wtc. Why? He knows any lawsuit will be thrown out post haste.
Point is, he'd be wiser to stop all the law-writing foolishness, thereby avoiding confusion among passengers and event he public at large. Ah, but he's hooked on the media publishing his every move in hopes it garners him more votes. The dipshit doesn't realize that only his current base may vote his way while independents and undecideds see through his phony smokescreen.
In any event, his antics are not gaining him any votes from this group and may even cause some R's to either not vote for him at all or vote in a primary for a (much) better successor.

(4,579 posts)The law suites coming up on mandates. Still federal law supersedes state laws. Cant stand our Governor, he ranks right up there with Rick Scott who was an awful Governor.
We know how to pick them down here!

(14,337 posts)Only the Legislative Branch (Congress) can pass Federal Laws, not the Executive Branch (President). Why he issued an Executive Order instead, and used OSHA to get around it. Does OSHA have power to mandate this in the first place across all Industries? OSHA has issued a statement that they will not enforce this mandate pending final litigation. Meaning the Supreme Court?
In the past it was States who issued these vaccine mandates (like Jacobson v. MA.), not the Federal Government.
