(3,406 posts)"We're all born naked and the rest is drag." Reverend Duke sounds awesome. Too bad his parishioners are so narrow minded.

population 3,245. On the Ohio River near the border with Kentucky. Picture that in your mind. Surprised he lasted 30-years.
If the whole town is 3200-ish people, his congregation is probably less than 50 people. He probably lasted there so long because a quick Google search indicated it's one of those artist communities that form in rural areas and are usually "safe spaces" for GLBTQ+. There were probably always parishioners who were homo- and transphobic, but now they feel empowered to put all their hateful bigotry on display because *broadly gestures to everything TFG, MAGA, Q*.

(28,462 posts)the Metropolitan Community Church would be happy to welcome him. Hell, there are Methodist churches that would welcome him but he needs to get the fuck out of Indiana and move to a city like Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, DC, or NYC.

(53,950 posts)He learned quite a bit from his experience and now he is learning even more. The show "We're Here!" is FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! If you haven't seen it, I suggest binging both seasons, but do have tissues on hand.
The show in Selma, Alabama was also spectacular!

(148 posts)The UMC. It will probably result in a split within the church. Conferences in New England and the Northwest are very pro-inclusion, but we are few in number compared to the Southern Conferences and Conferences in other parts of the world. Some of our members had the chance to talk about it with members of a UMC church from Appalachia and they estimated that their church was about 60% pro-inclusion.
