Psaki says Biden will address Trump's role in Capitol riot

Source: The Hill

President Biden will speak about the responsibility that he believes former President Trump had in the Capitol attack on Thursday, the one-year anniversary of the insurrection, according to the White House.

During Wednesday's daily briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked if the president would address Trump's role in the riot. She responded, "yes."

“I would expect that President Biden will lay out the significance of what happened at the Capitol and the singular responsibility President Trump has for the chaos and carnage that we saw,” Psaki told reporters.

“And he will forcibly push back on the lie spread by the former president in an attempt to mislead the American people and his own supporters, as well as distract from his role and what happened,” she added.

When asked if Biden will call Trump by name in his remarks, Psaki said, “We’ll see; we’re finalizing the speech but I think people will know who he’s referring to.”
“I’d also note that President Biden has been clear-eyed about the threat the former president represents to our democracy and how the former president constantly works to undermine the basic American values and rule of law,” she said, adding that Biden believes Trump abused his office, undermined the Constitution, and ignored his oath of office to amass more power.

Lost me there, not good enough. Call the criminal by his name or it's nothing more than continued avoidance.

I'll be glad to be proven wrong if he does get specific, mind you. This is Psaki talking, not Biden.

Presidents aren't supposed to criticize past presidents in public. I am glad he is going there. Gonna be a whole bunch of people with their hair on fire. TFG may just finally have that stroke.

"The president plans to focus his remarks on what he sees as a sweeping attack on American democracy aimed at overturning his election and perpetuated by his predecessor, former President Donald Trump — to whom he refers simply as “the former president” in a draft of his speech circulating just hours before he’s scheduled to deliver it Thursday, White House officials said."

I hope that Joe keeps on calling TFG the former guy

President Biden will squarely blame former president Donald Trump for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, and for continuing to propagate falsehoods and unrest over the past year, when he speaks Thursday on the first anniversary of the insurrection.

“President Biden will lay out the significance of what happened at the Capitol, the singular responsibility President Trump has for the chaos and carnage that we saw,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday. She added that Biden “has been clear-eyed about the threat the former president represents to our democracy and how the former president constantly works to undermine basic American values and rule of law.”

Biden has criticized Trump by name on only a few occasions during his first year in office, and aides have made it clear he is reluctant to stir partisan fires or elevate Trump’s falsehoods. But some Democrats argue that Biden urgently needs to take on Trump more directly as the leader of a movement that is challenging America’s democracy.....

For all that, it remains unclear if Biden will call out Trump explicitly by name. He has done so before, but at other times he has referred to his predecessor indirectly, on one much-noted occasion calling him “the former guy.”
