Georgia vs. Alabama, national championship 2022: Dawgs stem Tide, win first college football title s

The Bulldogs are back atop the college football world for the first time in more than four decades

INDIANAPOLIS -- No. 3 Georgia exorcised myriad demons Monday night, overcoming No. 1 Alabama, coach Nick Saban and decades of close calls to win the 2022 College Football National Championship and claim its first crown since 1980. What started as a field goal fest opened up in the second half with the Bulldogs creating big plays on both sides of the ball and ultimately stemming the defending champion Crimson Tide, 33-18.

After being clearly rattled in the first half, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett played poised and confident over the final 20 minutes, throwing the final two offensive touchdowns of the game while completing 17 of 26 passes for 224 yards. Alabama QB Bryce Young, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, threw a deep interception -- his second turnover of the game -- that defensive back Kelee Ringo returned 79 yards for a touchdown to ice the game with less than a minute to play.

And Georgia's bulldog was precious, sitting there sleeping during the game.

maybe they should play best 2 out of 3. The combined score of the two games is Alabama 59 Georgia 57.

That sort of says it all (along with their performance all season).

No 2 out of 3 necessary. Sabin, Young and AL got soundly BEAT! And I'm thrilled! AL is a team I can't help but respect, but they were due... past due. And if you still doubt that, can you say...

Texas A&M?

Why is it that GA fans (particularly here) can accord AL the respect deserved and earned, but never the opposite? Lots of sour grapes coming from that direction.

Georgia D especially the line is as good as it gets. They switched things up and put pressure on Young all game. Two top tier programs.

That their goal would be to get to AL qb? Or fix at the half. And why didn't any other team have success at that all year? Except a & m

Just improved exponentially? And Saban would have had to have known that. But receivers QB could have thrown to quickly weren't there

A serious and very predictable uptick in the number of little boys bearing the cheesy name of "Stetson." Wear that name on your hats, not your sons.

This season’s bowl games were full of no-shows, cancellations, and blowouts. But this game was worthy of the title - National Championship!
