Manchin chides Democrats over filibuster, saying he can't support 'such a perilous course'

Source: The Hill

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) warned Democrats against trying to change the legislative filibuster and lamented the state of the Senate, hours before a months-long fight over Senate rules will come to a head.

Manchin went through a laundry list of reasons explaining why he supports the 60-vote threshold for most major legislation and argued that the pitch from his Democratic colleagues about wanting to restore the Senate is "simply not true."

"For the last year, my Democratic colleagues have taken to the Senate floor, cable news airwaves, pages of newspapers across the country, and to argue that repealing the filibuster is restoring the vision the founding fathers intended for this deliberate body. My friends, that is simply not true. It's not true," Manchin said.

Manchin added that his Democratic colleagues "would use the nuclear option to override a rule that we have used ourselves, but now seem to find unacceptable."

for the first time in his political career. All he can do, however, is destroy things; he has contributed not a single suggestion on how to make the bill a law. In this he is more Republican than Democrat.

All he and Sinema can do is righteously declare how important voting is --even going so far as referencing MLK--and tweet pictures of themselves standing next to John Lewis (Sinema).

So many people died so others could vote; so many people marched to ensure the franchise was available to all citizens. Now, because of two intransigent senators who represent a tiny portion of the electorate, we're going to have to start the fight over.

"I can't believe I'm still having to protest this shit," said a sign held by an elderly woman. Sigh...

we'd still be a British colony. There's no way he would have signed the Declaration of Independence.

As it is, between him and T****, democracy is going to end, and we're going to become a Russian state. All hail President Putin!

The founding fathers would never have approved of the filibuster, having warned against requiring action only by supermajority.

Plus, and most important, the Republicans of today are not the Republicans of yesterday. They now realize they can't win in a fair, democratic election, so they are dismantling democracy, one crazy voter-supressing state law at a time. That is why we need to end the filibuster so we can pass a law to protect voters from these laws, or we will lose our democracy.

Yes, it is "a rule that we have used ourselves, but now seem to find unacceptable." And the reason it is unacceptable is because it will destroy our democracy! Why is that so hard for you to understand?????

Protect the status quo and that protects the fossil fuel industries. And that might make him West VA first billionaire and
that will fuck the earth's environment and Joe knows that and doesn't give a shit.

Same with Sinema and her two real goals are:

Protect the status quo and that protects the pharmaceutical industries. And that will make Sinema a multimillionaire and
she will be given high paying do nothing jobs such as to be on the board of directors for some drug maker or as a "dean"
at some right wing college and she will live out her life in really expensive real estate with 24/7 security as a pariah as
her obvious mental illnesses overtake her.
