Newly released video from the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack shows a Texas man ranting about a stolen presidential election and calling for elected officials to be publicly killed.
Cut their head off! he yells at one point.
Its release by the Justice Department came just hours after top Republican Party officials issued a resolution on Friday stating that the people who mobbed the Capitol had engaged in legitimate political discourse.
The man in the video, Ryan Nichols, was arrested in the days after the attack and pleaded guilty to all of the charges against him, which include assault with a crowbar and pepper spray. His case is still pending in federal court.

(9,958 posts)This guy was arrested within days of the Capitol assault and pleaded guilty to all charges, yet more than a year later his case is still pending in federal court. Why? It seems our courts are so jammed up that nothing happens without significant delays. With the insurrection, the courts have been flooded with criminal cases, but it seems strange that it takes more than a year to resolve a case when the criminal pleads guilty.

(5,768 posts)....in many cases it's because they are actively cooperating or they might be called upon to do so. They might be needed as witnesses against others. The authorities don't want to close the case until they are sure they have no further use for the defendant. The want to keep the threat of a harsher sentence hanging over their head.

Take Toni Anne Dashiell, one of the three members from Texas.
She is president of Dashiell Properties, Inc., Property Management Firm according to her bio at the RNC. That company's webpage is here: https://www.dashiellproperties.com/about-us
It lists the company address as

It occurs to me that if Republican activists can have legitimate political discourse at one place of work that Democrat activists could have legitimate political discourse at some other place of work.
I mean, that's how legitimate political discourse works, right?
