Tim Considine Dies: 'My Three Sons', 'The Shaggy Dog', 'Patton' Actor Was 81
Source: Deadline
By Greg Evans
Tim Considine, one of the most popular young Disney actors of the 1950s before originating the role of the eldest brother on the 1960s sitcom My Three Sons, died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 81.
His death was announced by his son Christopher, and shared on Facebook by My Three Sons co-star Stanley Livingston, who played Chip Douglas to Considines Mike. Tim and I have been friends for more than 70 years, Livingston wrote, adding He will be missed by all those who knew him. I love you Bro.
Considine was already known to television audiences particularly youngsters by the time he was cast for the 1960 debut on ABC of My Three Sons. He had played Spin Evans on the mid-50s Mickey Mouse Club serial The Adventures of Spin and Marty, and, later in the decade, Frank Hardy (to Tommy Kirks Joe Hardy) on the Clubs The Hardy Boys serial.
He appeared in yet a third Club serial, Annette starring Annette Funicello, and in 1959 took on the big-screen role opposite his future My Three Sons castmate Fred MacMurray in Disneys hit comedy The Shaggy Dog.

(22,243 posts)I received it as part of my annual stash of new books for Christmas, probably the year the series was running. Now I am not one to re-read a book but I read that one several times, then my sister read it too. The spine cracked big time on the poor old thing.
It is a great book for a middle school reader, and one I don't think the crazy book burners would find objectionable.
Tim Consodine always gave good, natural performances. I loved The Hardy Boys!

(1,402 posts)Considine's death sent me on a trip down memory lane. Found out some new and inspiring things about the Mouseketeers just now. Oh, what a life.

(205,074 posts)I think I caught the very end of "My Three Sons," first run - and I know this has been brought up many times before - but Chip's neighbor and playmate somehow became his brother - and Ernie was acually his real-life brother!
AngryOldDem
(14,061 posts)He had some of the best lines, along with Uncle Charley.
Sometimes I catch Double Indemnity on TCM and its strange to see Steve Douglas involved in a murder plot. Fred MacMurray had a very distinguished career.

(205,074 posts)And I saw "Double Indemnity" when I was in college - they had a film society that showed movies - often classics - on weekends. And I found Steve Douglas as a "bad guy" very disturbing, too! Not to mention that he was inexplicably involved with Victoria Barkley (Barbara Stanwick) from "Big Valley!"

(2,346 posts)Just from remembering the face, otherwise, I'd never have placed him in the movie. I mean, "My Three Sons" was just a tad before my time. I remember my great grandmother having the TV on and seeing the title of the show come up on reruns, but I was a tyke. Patton came out a couple years before I was born, but I've seen it more than a few times (it's in my video library as a WW2 history buff).

(14,061 posts)He was in the first few episodes, and then never seen or brought up again, as far as I know. That actor died recently, too.

(14,061 posts)His character graduated from college, got married, and moved away his character came to a logical conclusion, unlike Chucks. Mike was never brought up again, AFAIK, so I guess you could say he disappeared.
I dont know if there was a contract dispute with Considine, or if the show thought he had aged out, or if he wanted to move on. Ernie was an orphaned neighbor and friend of Chips who the Douglases adopted new third son.

(14,061 posts)William Frawley played Uncle Bub in the early seasons. Frawley became ill and William Demorest came in as Uncle Charley, Bubs brother. They were very similar, so a nice bit of casting there.

(16,927 posts)He was the big brother. I was more interested in Robbie and Chip, because of my age.

(16,351 posts)I'm the same age as Chip. I actually liked the show better after Mike left and Ernie moved in.
But Robbie was far and away the cutest one!
