190 Papa John's stores in Russia still open: 'At the end of the day, they appreciate a good pizza'

The Papa John's restaurants are primarily owned by Russians through a franchise agreement with a company controlled by Colorado native Christopher Wynne, who told the Times that Russians are "clearheaded and understand the dark gravity of the situation they're in" and that "at the end of the day, they appreciate a good pizza."
The best thing I can do as an individual is show compassion for the people, my employees, franchisees and customers without judging them because of the politicians in power, Wynne told the newspaper.
The Hill has reached out to Papa John's for comment.
Last week, Papa John's announced the suspension of its corporate operations in Russia, joining other high-profile international companies such as Starbucks and McDonald's.
The international pizza chain, 8 percent of whose global stores are located in Russia, also said it would donate food and make financial donations to aid Ukrainian refugees.

(1,568 posts)I thought that was the exact opposite of my experience from the early 2000's when I had their pizza. I understood the dislike of the owner, but not of the product itself. Turns out I was confusing Papa Johns with Papa Murphy's. I don't think I ever had Papa John's pizza.

(10,279 posts)1. You receive your order and inspect it to make sure it is what you ordered.
2. With the pizza in the box, you place it in your oven at home at 400 deg-F.
3. When there is smoke, remove it from the oven.
4. Remove the pizza from the box and toss it into the trash can.
5. Eat the box.

(5,477 posts)Remember, though, that Papa John's managed to set that bar REALLY low.
Having grown up with Johnny's Pizza in Mount Vernon, NY has pretty much spoiled me for life. The last time I was back there I introduced a 5th generation of our family to the pure goodness that is Johnny's. My grandparents took my mother there when she was a young girl in the 1940's. (Google 'johnny's pizza mount vernon' if you want to know more.)

Almost as awful as Little Caesars. Not even close to Dominoes or Pizza Hut, and they both suck...
