'Your freedom is ours': Biden affirms allegiance to Poland

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — President Joe Biden on Saturday sought to reassure Poland that the United States would defend against any attacks by Russia and he acknowledged that the NATO ally bore the burden of the refugee crisis from the war in neighboring Ukraine.

“Your freedom is ours,” Biden told Poland’s president, Andrzej Duda, echoing one of Poland’s unofficial mottos.

At the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, the two leaders spoke of their mutual respect and shared goals to end the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Although times are very difficult, today Polish-American relations are flourishing,” Duda said.

6. President Biden's speech writers

really know their history. Going back to the first world war, there was a phrase in the Polish American communities: "Za wolność naszą i waszą." Translated that says: "For freedom, yours and ours." It was displayed on homes and businesses and in Polish American Parades. Good job President Biden and to that of your speech writers too!

On edit: The phrase might have gone back as far as the revolutionary war and Polish uprisings for freedom in Europe with Kosciuszko and Pulaski, but I need to research this further.
