Four people died early Sunday when a vehicle crashed into a homeless camp near Front and Division Streets just west of downtown, according to Salem police.

Two people died at the scene of the crash that occurred about 2 a.m., police said. Two others were taken to Salem Health hospital where they died. The driver also was taken to the hospital.

The camp is in a small triangle of trees and grass just west of Front Street NE where it begins to curve.

Nathan Rose said he and his girlfriend were in their tent at the northeast corner of ARCHES on Front Street when he heard two loud thuds. Rose said the sedan vehicle just missed his tent.

so they don't have to camp out in dangerous areas where a vehicle can crash into them. In my city there are a lot of these under bridges where it's dark and dangerous, and parks and grassy areas. We have a few churches that allow them to camp in their yard.

They live in tent cities in the bushes along the sides, because the get rousted by "The Man" if they are seen. It is scary to think about home much danger the housing insecure face.
