George W. Bush meets virtually with Zelensky

Source: Axios

Former President George W. Bush confirmed on Twitter on Thursday that he'd had a video call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he praised as "the Winston Churchill of our time."

Why it matters: The meeting makes Bush the first known former U.S. president to speak with Zelensky since the start of the war.

What they're saying: "President Zelensky assured me that they will not waver in their fight against Putin’s barbarism and thuggery," Bush added in an Instagram post. "Americans are inspired by their fortitude and resilience."

"We will continue to stand with Ukrainians as they stand up for their freedom."

The big picture: Back in February, Bush condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine and urged the American government to throw its full support behind Ukraine.

He created generations of people who will make it their goal in life to seek revenge for their families and friends who were killed by the U.S. military under his order.

So, for being a mass murderer, for fucking the security of this country, for torture, for the illegal surveillance, for the indifference that facilitated the worst terrorist attack in our history, for the lies, for the Patriot Act, for Cheney, for John Roberts & Samuel Alito, for all of it...damn him.

If there's a god, s/he might forgive him, but I never will.

Thu May 5, 2022, 10:43 PM
May 2022

Remember Paul? He is the fellow who doggedly pursued the facts of W's AWOL during time of war. Absence from duty.

The news of the AWOL nearly broke on the Friday before the election. Many of us had been desperately trying to break it, in touch with media outlets and members of Congress.

On that Friday, Senator Bob Kerrey had called a press conference to publicly ask George W. Bush to explain his absence of duty during war.

Karl Rove blew that out of the water by feeding the W. old DUI story to someone at FOX News. Rove had a special talent for seizing the news narrative with the assistance of FOX. We never heard about the DUI story in the media before Tuesday election.

Here is a link to old discussions on DU about Lukasiak's work.

I could not track the sources of those speculations but the story was consistent.

I personally believe W had at least a drinking problem during that period. What convinced me that something like that had happened was the degree of avoidance and misdirection which shrouded any questions raised about that period in his career, along with the complete disappearance of records and witnesses.

I have no doubt whatever that until TFG came on the scene W and his neo-con cronies were the most corrupt administration by far, as well as the worst for America in terms of transparency and Civil Rights.

It would be a "fair trade" to allow him to be tried as a war criminal, so that we can also try Putin as one. We invaded Iraq with as much justification as Putin had for invading Ukraine. He might actually "get off" in a court, but Putin doesn't have a prayer.

To his way of thinking, as former -- or current -- president he is a senior statesman, and his opinions are important to the world, and he cannot be ignored.

Besides, he has a close personal relationship with both leaders, so who would be better to make a deal to end this activity?

"Only I can fix it."

I may be wrong, but didn't Trump make a call to his BFF when this crap began? He did it from the patio at Mar-A-Lego, so that everyone could see how important he still was.

.....is saying something most Republicans are too cowardly to say.

On the other hand, when he apologizes for letting Dick Cheney take over his presidency for about 90% of its duration, THEN I'll be impressed. But apologies are a rare commodity in Washington. Of the six Democratic Senators who ran for President two years ago, five of them happily helped hound Al Franken out of the Senate, and none of them have apologized. Obviously, it's a different scale altogether, causing a few hundred thousand deaths and wrecking the US budget, but I have learned not to expect public apologies from government figures for anything, be it wrecking their own colleagues or wrecking the country's future for twenty years. Once someone is ensconced in Washington, the capacity apparently just fades from their DNA.

I'd tell you to go fuck yourself
But that is much too kind
If you could perform that feat
You'd take pleasure in your behind

I'd like to say eat shit and die
But you deserve much more
You should suffer all the grief and pain
Of your misbegotten war

Though I can never make you think
Or feel, or understand
I'll take solace when you hear your name
Cursed throughout the land

From inside a lonely prison cell
Dark and bare and cold
Where every day you pay for your crimes
Until you're sick, heartbroken, and old

Then when you finally leave this earth
You fucked over oh so well
If there is a God and afterlife
You're going straight to hell.
