The Washington Post fires reporter Felicia Sonmez after a week of feuding publicly with her colleagu

Source: CNN

Business)The Washington Post on Thursday fired Felicia Sonmez, the reporter who has been extraordinarily critical of her colleagues and the newspaper's leadership over the last several days, two people familiar with the matter told CNN on Thursday.

The Post's termination notice, a copy of which was seen by CNN, said Sonmez was fired for "misconduct that includes insubordination, maligning your coworkers online and violating The Post's standards on workplace collegiality and inclusivity."

"We cannot allow you to continue to work as a journalist representing The Washington Post," the letter concluded.

This appears to be retaliation for her denouncing Dave Weigel's sexist retweet a couple of days ago.
WaPo wasn't happy suspending the guy without firing the girl.

openly bashing the Post. This coming right after an unsuccessful lawsuit against the Post.

This is a mess.

The controversy currently swirling around The Washington Post doesn’t go back days. It goes back years.

If you want to truly understand how one of the most respected news organizations in the world is smack dab in the middle of a hot mess, you can’t start with a high-profile reporter retweeting a sexist and homophobic tweet. You have to look at the history of the reporter who objected to that retweet and her relationship with the paper she works for, as well as the inconsistent social media policy of that paper.

You want us to look at all that long time in which Felicia did not get fired.
But now that she condemns a colleague and gets fired shortly afterward, you imply that the Washington Post somehow saw the light and decided that what Felicia did before her sexism condemnation warrants termination.
So no.

No, it wasn't her reaction to Weigel. It was how she continued to trash other colleagues and the Washington Post. Not just making the workplace toxic, but actually affecting the ability of others to do their job:

This source continued, “It’s frustrating to have this person make these assertions broadly about the Post and imply and amplify this idea that there’s this great division and that the Post has this toxic work environment when that is not the case.”

And yet another said it goes well beyond newsroom bickering.

“This is affecting sourcing relationships,” they said, adding that sources have told them that they are hesitant to talk to the Post right now because of all the “drama.”

She was told by management to stop trashing her coworkers publicly and she refused. At this point it seems pretty clear: they either have to accept her trashing the paper and the people working there or they have to let her go.

Wapo newsroom still tense today as Breanna Muir replies all to Sally Buzbee’s note from yesterday.

“Does our company social media policy not apply to Lisa Rein for telling Felicia Sonmez to stop on Twitter? In all honesty, her comment doesn’t really sound collegial to me”.

The Washington Post is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful place that I have ever worked.

Several WaPo reporters tweeting after @SallyBuzbee's memo that, while the institution isn't perfect, they are proud to work for the paper. Here are a few.
