Source: ABC Action News
TAMPA, Fla. — Publix announced Wednesday it would not administer COVID-19 vaccines to kids under the age of 5 at the current time. ABC Action News received a statement from Publix Supermarkets spokesperson, Hannah Herring, confirming this report. 1. Every liberal needs to move out of floriduh
I don't know why anyone would want to live there in the current, unlikely-to-change-for-the-forseeable-future, Floriduh.
I wouldn't visit there now no matter what. Don't the rightwing jackasses know they're destroying tourism? The biggest moneymaker FL has?? This has to be the last straw for DeSatan. |

5. Crist is ahead of DeSantis in the latest polls.
Not by a lot, but we have a summer of republican "shit coming home to roost" to bring us happiness and change minds.

23. Not really
Crist is dramatically ahead of his primary opponent, but the vast majority of public polls released show DeSantis with a moderate to comfortable lead.
Crist's campaign recently claimed that there was a "secret" poll from a republican pollster showing a one point lead for Crist. But there are significant questions there. |

15. Florida has no state tax and the Wx is nice. Works for me.. I'd love to live in a Blue state
and in retirement I can't afford it and these old bones cant handle the cold.
Better to change it if we can...it will be tough..YMMV m |

2. Not yet, at least
Wait for the backlash coming from parents and concerned others …
They’ll reverse this, maybe not by this weekend, but I’d bet no later than Monday imo ✌🏻 |

4. boycott that pos company. FL has fked up with so little choices.
It seems Publix is the only grocery store in FL . They're located every so many miles. FL is almost there like Russia with that un-American pos douche DeSantis. With mainly just Publix in the area they control prices and limit choices.

9. A few Publix headlines that might provide some clarity:
Publix is a strong GOP supporter, as are its owners. A few headlines from the first page of search hits:
"Pro-Trump Publix Heirs Donated $25K to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Last Month" "Publix was handed a vaccine distribution deal weeks after donating $100,000 to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' PAC" "Publix Heiress Donated About $300,000 to Trump for his January 6 Rally" "Publix heiress donated more than $450K to groups who helped organize Jan. 6 insurrection" "In December, the company made four $25,000 contributions to the Friends of Ron DeSantis political committee." "Publix donated around $200,000 to sponsors of the "Don't Say Gay" bill" |

11. I think. I would rather have a pediatrician give a baby a shot
So many small kids cry and try to run when given shots - Publix may not want the liability of staff doing this and possibly giving shot too high up in arm which can cause SERVA. Also, publicity of children being held down and screaming while getting a shot would be rampant because of cell phones. Better to have pediatricians or their nurses who work exclusively with kids give the shots. Also, because of side effects of fevers, etc working closely with a Dr sounds safest.
Having worked at a children’s hospital when I was younger, surgeries were postponed when kids had temper tantrums and nurses were not able to get blood drawn. When I was about 6, I had my tonsils out (they grew back in) and a nurse was trying to give me a shot - she didn’t succeed because I out maneuvered her. |

Our vaccination centers have therapy dogs for the kids. The stores don't have this luxury.

14. There are federal guidelines but also state ones involving pharmacist immunizations
Pharmacists are normally not authorized to give immunizations to infants/toddlers under age 3 per federal guidelines, but are permitted to do them down to that age subject to stipulations in state law for certifications, etc.
Using the PREP Act (Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act), HHS has periodically been updating rules for childhood vaccinations administered by pharmacists as a result of the current pandemic and its aftermath of a troubling drop in vaccinations for other childhood diseases, with the latest update done back in January 2022 - Tenth Amendment to Declaration Under the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act for Medical Countermeasures Against COVID-19 (PDF version here) States then have authorities based on state law. There is a good (although not completely up-to-date) interactive website from a pharmacist's association, that details the laws in every state - https://naspa.us/resource/pharmacist-authority-to-immunize/ (state legislation update from last year here that has most likely been superseded but not updated at the site) Interestingly, when I was doing this post and listening to the radio, I actually heard a story where the PA legislature was looking at updating the waivers in current state law regarding pharmacists and vaccinations set to expire at the end of the month and it seems all hell has been breaking out between pediatricians and pharmacists. ![]() |

21. Publix used to be the go-to store for me
but sadly, they have gone downhill particularly since the pandemic. I am sure they had supply issues during the middle of the pandemic but those things should have been worked out by now. Seems they just don't care too much about their customers' needs anymore.
