Several people dead in Copenhagen shopping mall shooting
Source: AP
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) A gunman opened fire in a Copenhagen shopping mall, one of the largest of its kind in Scandinavia, killing several people and wounding several others on Sunday, police said.
The suspected gunman, who is in custody, is a 22-year-old Danish man who was detained near the Fields shopping mall on the southern outskirts of the capital, said police inspector Søren Thomassen, head of the Copenhagen police operations unit.
We know that there are several dead and several injured, Thomassen told a news conference, adding that terror cant be ruled out. We do not have information that others are involved. This is what we know now.
He didnt provide any further details on the victims. The shopping center is on the outskirts of Copenhagen just across from a subway line that connects the city center with the international airport. A major highway also runs adjacent to Fields, which opened in 2004.

(4,138 posts)white supremacist. Its absolutely tragic what has happened. Id also guess that the Danish government will quickly take concrete steps to reduce the chances of this happening again.

(1,823 posts)Copenhagen is right next door to Malmo (Sweden) where Islamic fundamentalist terrorism has been an increased problem in recent years.
It wont shock me if its a Nazi or an Islamic fundamentalist terrorist.

The statistics tell a different story, but they'll latch on to an incident like this to further their argument that nothing needs to change in America.

The Sackler family that runs Purdue Pharma was held accountable for the opioid epidemic and have to fork over a $6 Billion settlement. Gun manufacturers do the same thing. They flood the market with guns, not caring where they end up. Violence happens and more people buy guns for protection. A vicious cycle, money is made. Rinse and repeat. Why can't we hold the gun manufacturers to account just like Purdue Pharma and the Sacklers?
Your "first reaction" and "our sickness is spreading to the rest of the world" just might be true.

(56,582 posts)I know we say we're the only country this happens in but Norway, Denmark, and Finland have all had problems with this too (but not Sweden, though Sweden does have a disturbing number of grenade attacks). Russia also has a lot of mass shootings. In fact Norway had a mass shootings last week and Russia had a horrific kindergarten mass shooting a earlier this year.
It would be interesting to find out why this happens in some countries but not others.

Careless storage by his parents? Some idiot keeping the rifle for him, though they knew he hadn't passed the tests for a licence?

(1,832 posts)... unless there is a public search for them. The suspect is a member of a local rifle shooting club, which may explain why he has access to sharp weapons and associated ammunition. He had a Sauer rifle and a semi-automatic Walther P38 pistol.
