Of course I don't mean that. It's just that I've been so discouraged by the comments posted after similar news stories lately-- I'm thinking in particular about the hiker who was rescued on Mt. Ranier this week, and the many comments that "anyone crazy enough to do this should be left to die so taxpayers don't have to save them," but similar comments seem to crop up everywhere these days. Have we lost our charity entirely?

Please excuse my cynicism. And RIP, Sarah.

...your words. I hope not, mike_c. The world needs more charity, humanity and empathy these days.

Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke has died from injuries sustained in a training accident, according to a family spokeswoman.

Burke, 29, helped bring freestyle skiing events to the Winter Olympics, and was considered a gold medal contender for the 2014 Games.

She was injured in a superpipe accident at Park City in the US state of Utah.

Such a shame. I was afraid this would be the result; she's been in a coma since the accident.

Condolences to her family and friends.

and while maybe not a "bright spot", there is much to be said for living a life fully even if only for a short time... I so respect people that have the skill and the passion and actually do the thing thay are passionate about. A shortened life, but it appears, a life well lived!
