Russian oil boss Ravil Maganov who criticised war in Ukraine dies 'after falling from hospital...
Source: Sky News
The chairman of Russia's second largest oil producer has died after falling from a hospital window in Moscow, according to reports in the country. Ravil Maganov, who was also vice president at Lukoil, had openly criticised the war in Ukraine. The 67-year-old was chair of the company's board which called for the "soonest termination of the armed conflict" and expressed "sincere empathy for all victims" in March. The statement continued: "We strongly support a lasting ceasefire and a settlement of problems through serious negotiations and diplomacy."
Mr Maganov died after falling from a sixth floor window at the Central Clinical Hospital this morning, according to RBC News in Russia. Other Russian media outlets and the Reuters news agency, citing unnamed sources, have also said Mr Maganov fell from a window.

(5,969 posts)This has become a running joke because they don't even try to come up with something new.
It's bizarre after reading only the headline and thinking surely it's not another death of a critic who fell from a window. And then exactly that happened.
It also shows how thin-skinned Putin is. One bad remark and you are done.

(5,969 posts)I thought they are lazy because they get away with it. But sending a warning to others to better be loyal might be the intended message that may be even more important than the killing of one critic.

It's not really about white supremacy over there in Russia. It's all about Putin supremacy.

Under our current system, if you have enough money and connections, you are basically untouchable.
In a Dear Leader dictatorship, their money won't protect them. Deviate from the official line, offend the wrong person, break a rule you didn't even know existed? You won't get a call from the government that you let your lawyers handle. You will get a visit from your worst nightmare.
I hope they think about that when they pony up big money to gut our system of laws, overthrow our democracy, and install a President-For-Life.

The first hospital we visited was in Moscow. A very, very old building. Wooden floors. Beds with no side rails. There were flies everywhere because all the windows were open and there were no screens!
