Ex-Miss America Mund's entry pushes Dem out of ND House race

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Former Miss America Cara Munds entry into North Dakotas U.S. House race has led the Democratic candidate to drop out, citing pressure from his own party to step aside.
Mund entered the race in August as an independent, citing her support for abortion rights as a major reason. Tuesday was the deadline for her to submit 1,000 petitions to qualify for the ballot.
North Dakotas only House seat is currently held by GOP Rep. Kelly Armstrong, who won his second term in the deeply conservative state in 2020 with 69% of the vote. Armstrong opposes abortion rights.
Democrat Mark Haugen said Sunday that his opposition to abortion rights cost him support in the party, the Bismarck Tribune reported. He said he didnt see a path to winning.

Roe the vote!
I hope Rep. Kelly Armstrong shows his support for Trump too.

In addition to graduating with Latin Honors from Harvard Law School, Mund received the 2022 Kristin P. Muniz Memorial Award, an academic award that recognizes a graduating student who has demonstrated an exemplary dedication to client-centered representation in criminal courts and has focused their efforts on racial justice and equality, respect for human dignity, fairness, diversity, and compassion.source

Kelly Armstrong in an uncontested R Primary got 69,820 votes.
In 2020, Armstrong won the seat 68%-27%.
Our success in holding the House will come from concentrating on races that are actually winnable.

(14,569 posts)all bets are off with the reversal of Roe v Wade. I could very well be wrong, though. We'll see.
Women seem to be registering to vote in record numbers. Not sure if that will carry forward in ND, but it is a nice thought - that this pro-abortion-rights indy candidate could pull it out.
