Ex-Miss America Mund's entry pushes Dem out of ND House race

Source: AP

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Former Miss America Cara Mund’s entry into North Dakota’s U.S. House race has led the Democratic candidate to drop out, citing pressure from his own party to step aside.

Mund entered the race in August as an independent, citing her support for abortion rights as a major reason. Tuesday was the deadline for her to submit 1,000 petitions to qualify for the ballot.

North Dakota’s only House seat is currently held by GOP Rep. Kelly Armstrong, who won his second term in the deeply conservative state in 2020 with 69% of the vote. Armstrong opposes abortion rights.

Democrat Mark Haugen said Sunday that his opposition to abortion rights cost him support in the party, the Bismarck Tribune reported. He said he didn’t see a path to winning.

Glad he dropped out. I was a little surprised to see a former Miss America with progressive views. They're usually as reactionary as a Klansman.

Even in North Dakota women do not like other people telling them what they can do w/their own bodies.

Roe the vote!

I hope Rep. Kelly Armstrong shows his support for Trump too.

The Republicans are saying she supports the radical Democratic agenda.

In addition to graduating with Latin Honors from Harvard Law School, Mund received the 2022 Kristin P. Muniz Memorial Award, an academic award that recognizes a graduating student who has demonstrated an exemplary dedication to client-centered representation in criminal courts and has focused their efforts on racial justice and equality, respect for human dignity, fairness, diversity, and compassion.

Some of the western provinces in Canada are pretty conservative, but you can still get abortions there, too.

Mark Haugen in an uncontested D Primary got 21,744 votes.
Kelly Armstrong in an uncontested R Primary got 69,820 votes.

In 2020, Armstrong won the seat 68%-27%.

Our success in holding the House will come from concentrating on races that are actually winnable.

all bets are off with the reversal of Roe v Wade. I could very well be wrong, though. We'll see.

Women seem to be registering to vote in record numbers. Not sure if that will carry forward in ND, but it is a nice thought - that this pro-abortion-rights indy candidate could pull it out.
