Texas woman arrested on charges she made death threats to judge in Mar-a-Lago documents case

Source: NBC News

A Texas woman has been arrested for allegedly making death threats against Aileen Cannon, the judge presiding over former President Donald Trump's court fight against the Justice Department over national security documents seized from his Florida resort. Tiffani Gish was arrested last week in the Houston area after she admitted to federal marshals that she had left three threatening voicemails for Cannon, telling her she was "marked for assassination" and that she planned to shoot her in front of her family, a federal criminal complaint says.

Gish also made a number of outlandish comments in the Sept. 1 calls, saying she's "in charge of nuclear" for the country and has a "license to kill," the court filings said. At one point in the voicemails she said she's working for Trump as his "hitman," while at another point she accused Trump of having orchestrated the Sept. 11 attacks and claimed he is marked for assassination as well, they said. She identified herself in the calls as a federal agent named "Evelyn Salt" — the name of a spy character played by Angelina Jolie in the 2010 movie "Salt," the filings alleged.

U.S. marshals were able to identify Gish as the caller by tracing her cell phone number, the criminal complaint says. Prosecutors said she has a history of "delusional conduct" and has "claimed to be a CIA agent, a Navy SEAL, an Army Ranger, and someone familiar with nuclear weapons or war, all while intermixing threats to public officials such as former President Donald Trump or former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton."

She's also "contacted the CIA several times since 2021" offering "un-credible, nonsensical information related to nuclear weapons," the filings said. Secret Service agents spoke to Gish's mother in March, and she told them her daughter has "suffered from severe bipolar disorder and is borderline schizophrenic," they said. A lawyer for Gish did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It is really fucked up. The resources are so limited and almost unavailable for any kind of meaningful treatment.

So many different ways we could do things better it's just ridiculous.

That woman definitely needs mental help, and if she hasn't actually physically hurt anybody she doesn't deserve to go to jail

The truth of the matter is whether you are suffering from bipolar depression or schizophrenia, the delusions are real in the mind of the person suffering from the illness. They are incapable of making sound judgements and could be more than capable to carry out violence. This is not a character issue. She needs hospitalization, medication and if the medication works, psychotherapy. I hope she can get what she needs. Our society usually drugs em up with downers and throws them in a corner somewhere instead of really making an effort to heal someone with mental illness. The brain breaks. Sometimes it can be healed. True mental illness is different than willful ignorance and a belief in conspiracy theories because you heard propaganda.

I think it "offended" some sense of that rugged individualism we Americans are suppose to have. But at one point, we did have sanitariums and mental hospitals and even mental hospitals for the criminally insane. Some were good; some were bad. But at least they weren't jail where you were thrown in with the criminals and there was little help to be found for your situation.

Reagan happened and he threw open the doors and kicked everyone out into the streets. Funding dried up and most all of them shut down. It really was everyone for him/herself. If your primary care doctor couldn't take care of it with meds, you were pretty much out of luck, unless you were made of money. Then, of course, you could find a good psychotherapist who might be able to help you.

I'm not saying rebuild all the hospitals and throw everyone back into them. There has to be a middle layer between the streets and lockup of any kind. Prison, itself, was meant to be a place of rehabilitation; not just a place of punishment. We've completely lost our way in these situations. But especially when it comes to the mentally ill. Most people who are mentally ill will never commit a crime or hurt anyone. But they are sorely misunderstood, often deliberately. And they're often treated harshly on first sight by the authorities because *they* don't have the training nor the time to deal with them appropriately.

This woman needs in-house treatment, obviously. Damned Republicans would rather she be out on the streets where she's a danger to herself and others, tho. It's just one more step in their "cruelty is the reason" mantra. And, amongst all the others, it makes me sick.

I read her as crazy MAGA person mad at Drumps judge not dismissing the case

At one point in the voicemails she said she's working for Trump as his "hitman,"

He hired her.

while at another point she accused Trump [sic] of having orchestrated the Sept. 11 attacks

She bragging about his power kill Americans

and claimed he is marked for assassination as well

But is worried for his safety.

That's Q level crazy.

And yes she is...but I also can't believe how sick she is and no one, her friends, family or community mental health programs have helped her in any meaningful way. I'm sure she's exhausting to be around, I doubt there are any easy solutions to her issues.

I am profoundly saddened by her and the hundreds of thousands, maybe millions who suffer as she does. It also kills me that we, as a society, still have no answers or solutions for her suffering and the toll it takes on her family and friends. Politics aside, we have a mental health crisis in our country and the MAGA cult is the most visible result of that crisis.

You'll find that those who cling to extreme CTs often live in their own "fantastical reality bubble" where "every politician", no matter what their proclaimed affiliation, "is part of the conspiracy".
