Republican Herschel Walker invokes Jesus to dismiss holding a gun to his wife's head

..................
The violence and abuse continue to be a topic from those speaking to Walker, but the Heisman trophy winner continues to dismiss it as unimportant.
Speaking to Atlanta based "Rolling Out," an entertainment site, Walker explained it wasn't anything more than a sin.
"You know, he without sin cast the first stone," Walker said, quoting Jesus in John 8 . Walker went on to attack his opponent, Rev. Raphael Warnock for being critical of his "sins" from 15 years ago.
Typically, one's past comes into focus when one runs for political office as a sign of judgment and leadership, and attempted murder is not generally brushed aside in political campaigns as nothing more than an everyday "sin."

I really have given up trying to understand why anyone would vote for a creep like Herschel Walker.

(21,433 posts)out of context and not relevant to the gun incident.
When Jesus said, "He who is without sin cast the first stone," he was scolding men for their double standard regarding sex and women because they were going to stone a woman for adultery. Since they all dropped their stones, we know what their own sex lives were like.

I am agnostic, but agree the Jesus of the Bible would not embrace Republicans.

(14,737 posts)What is worse than a mortal sin?
Not religious, but that seems kind of like the most severe thing you can do. Or are sins trivial?
ShazzieB
(16,377 posts)Not Catholic, never have been, but I know that the Catholic Church divides sins into 2 categories of severity: mortal and venial, and the mortal sins are definitely the worst ones. There are specific criteria for what constitutes a mortal sin, and I don't feel qualified to explain the details, as they can get pretty technical. But I would venture to say that holding a gun to someone's head would likely qualify. (18,621 posts)- it must be a grave sin (think Ten Commandments, not eating meat on a Friday during Lent)
-the person must know it is a sinful act
-knowing the act is both sinful and serious the person chooses to do it anyway
Pointing a weapon at a person in a threatening manner without justification would be a mortal sin according to Catholic teaching.

(9,979 posts)Anyone with an R will do versus a Democrat, but the more extremist their candidates are the more they like them. As Ive often said of Republican voters in Texas, they would elect an armadillo if it had an R beside its name. Rs here need no policies, they just need to be mean, hateful, and stupid.

Would that be never?
The appropriate thing to do from a secular viewpoint.
Since he claims the protection of religion, he should know that accepting responsibility for actions (not shrugging them off) is the first step toward forgiveness in Christianity, followed by accepting the consequences and making restitution where possible.

Sorry, buddy, but stuff like this really does matter, it demonstrates your opinion of half the human race as well as some pretty deep flaws in your character.
Uh, no, I hope this lunatic only gets the football groupie vote and Warnock is reelected.
Quoting the bible to cover your ass for attempted murder/suicide is low, man.

I really that he was talking about holding a gun to his wife's head when he said "Russian roulette," but this is Herschel Walker, so who the hell knows? Either way, it's horrifying.
The "competition" part throws me more than anything else. There is nothing "competitive" about Russian roulette. Walker must have a very, err, unusual conception of what that word means!

So, what's one little threat of murder on the woman you supposedly love more than anyone else? It happens all the time. Love; death threats, they go hand and hand. Along with genocide and world floods.
