Jan. 6 panel to vote on urging DOJ to prosecute Trump on at least three criminal charges

Source: Politico

The Jan. 6 select committee is preparing to vote on urging the Justice Department to pursue at least three criminal charges against former President Donald Trump, including insurrection.

The report that the select panel is expected to consider on Monday afternoon, described to POLITICO by two people familiar with its contents, reflects some recommendations from a subcommittee that evaluated potential criminal referrals. Among the charges that subcommittee proposes for Trump: 18 U.S.C. 2383, insurrection; 18 U.S.C. 1512(c), obstruction of an official proceeding; and 18 U.S.C. 371, conspiracy to defraud the United States government.

I SO want to be wrong, but I've almost come to the conclusion that tfg is above the law. I really really really want to be proven wrong.

I mean seriously.....

The fact that a formal referral in this matter of this magnitude has to be made by Congress conveys a level of weakness in our system that is truly breathtaking and scary.

It isn't as if I grew up so sheltered not to have noticed inequities in our justice system..

Race, Gender and Wealth based inequities is nothing new or unfortunately shocking or the least bit surprising.

But this. Shouldn't have required a congressional investigation and review just carry out equal justice plain and simple.

I'm not saying that a J6 committee shouldn't have conducted an investigation and hold hearings, sure we need that to nail it down for our history books, but that shouldn't have been used to dither and delay charges and prosecutions.

Just submit the report and all the evidence to DOJ.

While the committee votes on whether to send criminal referrals on Trump, reports are that Cheney has blocked any action on referrals for others, including sitting members of congress.

But I gave to say it.

I know people see jack smith as the answer to our hopes. And I know it’s easy to be a doomsayer. And lazy.

But I will repeat this anyway: we are s broken nation. Trump will not be indicted. Federal or state. I’m tired of hoping for the best.

Because they are not actionable, the J6 committee should send as many criminal referrals as they found for as many crimes as they uncovered.

The DOJ doesn't need criminal referrals to prosecute. These are only suggestions, so don't set your hopes on immediate prosecution. They are only suggesting to the DOJ that there are crimes here, a they are presenting evidence to show these crimes were committed and by whom.

Now, a criminal referral from an investigative entity that has done all this research to expose crimes means something to the DOJ. But the DOJ won't act unless they think they can get a conviction. And this motherfucker has always escaped accountability.

Don't expect much, and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

In the meantime, watch his fat head explode when the referrals are made. Stock up on some popcorn. This part ought to be entertaining.
