Trump says an indictment would not end presidential campaign

Source: AP

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump said Saturday that he would continue his third presidential campaign even if indicted.

“Absolutely, I wouldn’t even think about leaving,” Trump told reporters ahead of a speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.

Trump is under investigation by prosecutors probing his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election as well as his handling of classified documents, among other issues.

Trump delivered the conference’s headlining speech Saturday night, telling a cheering crowd of supporters that he was engaged in his “final battle” as he tries to return to the White House.

Traditional rethug donors maybe, but the last 10 years shows the FEC is fairly powerless to stop foreign money from funding campaign.

And that doesn't include whatever Murdoch et al owe Putin to give free good advertising masquerading as news on faux news and all over the radio.

huckster turned into Messiah and "The Chosen One". This will not end well. On a happier note, as long as the courts hold, he will be sued in perpetuity, or until he's dead at least. That gives me a modest amount of enjoyment! Is that wrong?

Trump is not interested in doing the job as president.

Never was.

He is more interested in the temporary immunity if provides against federal prosecution.

DOJ should amend its rules that prevent them from federal prosecuting a sitting president.

Then he will use the 'excuse' he is too busy being president to sit for civil and state cases.

It does seem like it would be an uphill battle, at best, for him to win the presidency again, after losing in 2020 and everything that's happened since then.

Yes, he does still have some dedicated cultists, but how many really dedicated ones are there at this point, really? I don't think we know, but there are many signs that their numbers have dwindled considerably.

I know some will point out that nobody thought he could win in 2016, but look what happened. To that, I say, 2016 was then, and this is now. Yes, he pulled one over on us back then, but it does not automatically follow that he could therefore do it again in 2024. In fact, I'm going to goo out on a limb and say that I don't think he can.

Especially if he is under multiple indictments from multiple jurisdictions.

He could be gagged from talking about the cases, including on social media.

He could be barred from communicating or associating with any number of co-conspirators, including, but not limited to Rudy, Meadows, Perry, and many, many others.

Any violation of his pre trial conditions would be cause for him to be taken into custody until trial.

You know who won’t be gagged? Ron DeSantis and any other Republicans competing for the nomination, as well as the Dems and the media.

While others fret about the delays and obstacles Trump will try to use, I look forward to the contortions he will have go through to comply with his pre-trial conditions, and the revelation of which Republicans and RW pundits are truly loyal, and which ones will drop him like the flaming bag of dog shit that he is.

Justice matters.

And weak aG will be scared of the danger of spilling innocent blood (I understand that, I'm scared too) and close all investigations.

Once elected by the EC after claiming victory over the "evil" democrat communists (his words) he will issue EOs and rule by fiat to nullify Congress. AR-15 firing squads and gallows galore will follow, and the Senators who voted to remove him better find safe spots to hide in...

Personally, I don't think he has it in him to win another election. Even if I did, I'd say it's quite premature to make a lot of hard and fast assumptions about what would happen after that.

He is a weak, weak man at this point. Yes, he has extremists who would do almost anything for him, but I don't think there are nearly as many as some seem to assume. The fact is, at this point in time he is a loser, and he is WEAK.

An indictment without a quick trial and conviction would benefit Trum by making him a martyr. That is why the clock is running out and why some of us are so damn impatient for a quick indictment. It may also be why things are moving slowly...

I'm not assailing DOJ or Merrick Garland or due process or any of the above. I'm not insinuating incompetence or delay.

What Trump just said is exactly what has struck fear in me since the day he slithered out of Washington. That the depth and breadth of his crime spree was simply too much for the system to handle WITHIN A TIGHT TIMELINE and he'd be back to terrorize America for what would likely be the last time. Because there won't be an America if that happens.

Hyperbole? Absolutely. But isn't everything about Trump written in bold print?
