House GOP investigates treatment of Jan. 6 defendants at D.C. jail
Source: Washington Post
House Republicans have launched an investigation into how those charged with crimes related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol have been treated in jail as some in the party try to portray the insurrection as a peaceful gathering while casting defendants as victims.
In the letter, members of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee allege inhumane treatment of Jan. 6 defendants and claim they are being treated differently from other prisoners, violating detainees constitutional and human rights. The Republicans claim the defendants have been subjected to a lack of medical care, unsanitary living conditions and difficulty accessing their lawyers.
Greene also contends that some of those incarcerated had been denied access to a Bible, suggesting such treatment was discrimination for their beliefs and constituted potential human rights abuses.
The members of Congress asked for full access to the District jails so they can review the facilities, interview employees and speak to those incarcerated. They also requested documents relating to the defendants cases and jail complaints, along with documents about the jails covid-19 policies since January 7, 2021.

Proud Boys leader Joe Biggs, who organized and led the PBs on Jan 6 with Ethan Nordean, just issued a statement from his jail cell complaining about how bad it is.

(48,773 posts)It's a win for RepubliQon primary candidates.
The set of people who believe Jan 6 was just a protest and not an insurrection has hit its peak. History, and even short term history is not kind to masterminds, criminals, followers and dupes. Hmm, odd to think of the rump as a mastermind, but given the nature of his minions, he is in the running for the brightest of the bunch. As to his followers and dupes: those two groups are one and the same.
Time will not gain him any more of the above. And he will quickly lose many or most of the Republicons who have sold their souls for a little money and a little power, as they search for alternatives.

Greene and her cohorts are too dumb to come up with this. Nonetheless they are despicable. Every time I think they have reached the bottom, they go lower.

(35 posts)GOP lawmakers have often resisted any efforts to regulate prisons, especially for-profit ones, as well as to tackle the political corruption involved. While conditions are harsh and inhumane, the Jan 6. terrorists are treated no differently from other inmates. Just like the GOP to fight dems on bill that help people until GOP folks need the help, then it is blame blame blame the dems.

Next they'll have the Red Cross go in with toiletries. And stacks of bibles of course.
