South Carolina GOP lawmakers propose death penalty for women who have abortions

Source: the hill

by Stephen Neukam - 03/13/23 5:18 PM ET

Republican lawmakers in South Carolina are considering a change to the state’s criminal code that would make a person who gets an abortion eligible for the death penalty.

The bill being considered in South Carolina, dubbed the South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023, would redefine “person” under state law to include a fertilized egg, giving it at the point of conception equal protection under the state’s homicide laws, including the death penalty.

The bill provides an exception for a pregnant person who underwent an abortion “because she was compelled to do so by the threat of imminent death or great bodily injury.” It also provides an exception if the procedure is needed to avert the death of a mother “when all reasonable alternatives to save the life of the unborn child were attempted or none were available.”

The bill does not provide an exception for rape or incest, a point that Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) took aim at on the House floor last week. Mace has blasted her party for its restrictive abortion .........................

I am getting more and more fearful for women as the days go by.
People fight back like John Fugelsang below--but when Religion enters the abortion bans--as it does so frequently, it seems useless.

Ok, what is criminal is the treatment of this nation to women and minorities of all types. We're being led by a bunch of great white dopes apart from most Democrats.

So this bill executes potential future unborn children. The legislators should all be in jail for the legislation they propose that by their own definition murders unborn potential.

equal to anything federal…is an abomination and a dagger to the heart of federalism.

One federal Criminal Code for One Country, each State can enforce. Or it’s 50 Countries…which it appears it is…Florida leading example.

quickly when they transgress the applicable law in question?

Man, these scumbag republicans are like mobbed lemmings tumbling over the edge of a cliff...they are proposing anything and everything to get votes, despite how unrealistic and unreasonable in their proposals. What's next, a life sentence of 100 years? And not just for those who gotten an abortion (never mind the ramifications of when, where, etc. of when the abortion was obtained, whether legally or not, in-state or out-of-state, they will be subject to death). Extremism is here, and this is irresponsible.

If the topic wasn't so extreme and/or serious, I'd laugh, when the next 10 or so persons that fall under the aspects of this new law turn out to be republican lawmakers from the state of South Carolina, who basically wrote the very law that may sentence them or their spouses to death.

They say that when extremism is at the peak of either side of the aisle (democratic or republican), then we're finally in a state where people finally realize that that legal and other measures being proposed are getting too extreme...

**** below is an abstract that describes extremism and all of the problems associated w/ extremism ****

Journal article // ScienceRise: Juridical Science, Political and Legal Characteristics of Extremism, 2017 // DOI: 10.15587/2523-4153.2017.116078 Vira Tymoshenko

It is proved that extremism is an anti-legal ideology. It leads to violation of rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of legal entities.
It is impossible to overcome extremism completely, because there will always be contradictions that cause it in society. However, it is necessary to counteract extremism, thereby reducing its manifestations and minimizing the consequences. It requires coordinated measures of socio-economic, political, legal and ideological measures aimed at overcoming the contradictions in society etc. ARTICLE NOT TOTALLY reproduced here...

They are displaying full Talaban-level treatment of women. The experience of women in Texas has already shown that women with pregnancy complications have to leave the state to get life-saving medical care. If this law passes in South Carolina, a woman who got an abortion in another state would be prosecuted for murder. We badly need an expanded Supreme Court to end this nonsense.

17. And men have done just that in the past
Tue Mar 14, 2023, 10:42 AM
Mar 2023

Under the umbrella of religion, men went through many European towns and villages murdering, burning and beheading witches. Some 60,000 people in Europe, mostly women and girls, were murdered as witches back in the 15th and 18th century.

So many were burned at once, or killed while being tortured in jail, that it left entire towns and villages without any women. The villagers would have to get women brought in from other places.

But that never stopped the men. They continued to claim they knew what god wants and god seemed to want lots of dead women.

This seems to be the rhyme of history.

Killing a woman for having terminated a pregnancy is just another way of burning witches.

They'd never institute a "one child" policy like china or do anything that "anti Christian." But I do believe they want to kill as many people off... as quickly as they can while they hold power... because they know the resources for life or at this point so limited, and they have so fouled the nest they live in that this is the only way they, personally, can survive.

Why else their policies... on Covid? On vaccines? On so many things. Everything they do or propose is a death policy in one way or another.

Republicans don’t have much to say in that regard.

Pro-life is inaccurate. This really means pro forced pregnancy and delivery, and anti-abortion. We give away too much to the other side when we let them get away with the gross mischaracterization of Pro-life. They think nothing of destroying the lives of women and girls.
