Manchin thanks GOP for permitting reform in debt deal
Source: The Hill
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) thanked Republicans on Sunday for helping secure permitting reform in the debt ceiling bill, a provision he has long fought to pass despite some pushback from factions of both parties.
Oh, I say thank you. Absolutely. A big thank you for [Speaker] Kevin McCarthy [R-Calif.] and his leadership team. Our Republican colleagues in the Senate, all of us, have spearheaded this thing from day one, Manchin said on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream.
The West Virginia senator had been pushing for permitting reform and faced pushback to some deals in the past from Republicans, who said certain bills did not go far enough, and from some progressive Democrats, who expressed concern over the potential harm it could cause to the environment.
It became a political football last year, Manchin said on Sunday. We took it out of that arena and now good policy has come through.

(1,783 posts)Short of another labor organizer like Mother Jones arising from those parts, I don't see things getting better for the citizens of WV when they keep electing people like Manchin (and worse!). Too many in this country vote against their own best interests every time they go to the polls. They have to be the most propagandized people on the planet. I'd feel sorry for them, but to quote Voltaire, "It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere".

Everybody gets a vote, and should, even those I disagree with have opinions every bit as valid as mine.

(1,783 posts)...continually vote for the privilege of being kicked in the face by their politicians. I reiterate the importance of labor organizers like Mother Jones and other grassroots leaders. Often when things get bad enough, a vanguard leadership arises to wake the populace from their inaction. I hope that's coming to WV and the nation in general.

(7,840 posts)River boat captain Manchin wants desperately to run for president and he's done his damnedest to diminish and derail the Biden agenda and threaten the Democratic majority in the Senate with the possibility of a party switch in the name of "bipartisanship"..only when his press turned negative did he come to the table in quasi good faith...
now that he's got Jim Justice snapping at his heels, we're going see Senator "I can work across the aisle" Manchin turn into a bigger anti-Biden asshole...

And pays for his cars and yachts. We had few options to avert a massive economic collapse but to sacrifice the planet for the likes of Manchin. And his response, praise Kev for genius. Fuck you Manchin, Chike on coal dust, beautiful clean coal dust.

(5,443 posts)Ar this point Justice, on of the most popular WV politicians in a long time, is leading Manchin by more than 20 percentage points in the polls in WV. https://surveyresearch-ecu.reportablenews.com/pr/justice-and-trump-with-commanding-early-leads-in-west-virginia Let's hope Justice will be as bipartisan as Manchin is, coming from the R side. It's not even a given that Manchin will seek reelection with such long odds.
