RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two pilots were killed when their planes crashed upon landing at an air racing event Sunday in Reno, authorities said.

Officials with the Reno Air Racing Association said the planes collided at the conclusion of the T-6 Gold race around 2:15 p.m. Sunday.

Other details weren’t immediately available, and the names of the pilots who died weren’t immediately released.

The association’s board of directors and the T-6 class president said they were working to notify relatives of the dead pilots about the crash, which occurred during the final day of the National Championship Air Races in Reno.

1. Getting worrisome

There was an incident this weekend in Italy. The pilot was practicing for an airshow, ejected from his plane. The crash killed a child on the ground and injured her family.

I have a relative who is active in local airshows and fly-ins.

2. Flying is dangerous....

My father had a lifelong interest in aviation, but he never flew...

I was influenced by this, and the films 'The Dawn Patrol' and 'The Great Waldo Pepper'.

At the age of 16, i enrolled in a program "Solo in ten hours" at a suburban airport--
it took more than 10 hours, I was up to 22--- I was not very athletic, but I was right on the edge
of being sent for my solo flight.....

Then winter came, and I was for some reason hesitant about doing "touch and go's" on a snowy landing strip---

(and had just had my first experiences driving a car on snowy icy roads in Michigan...)
(( and about the same time, I got my first serious girlfriend, which distracted me from the flying....))

I never flew again, and I never went solo.... and later on, I lost the feeling of "immortality" that one has at 16 or 17 years old...

Part of me now wishes that I had not been distracted--- pilots for commercial work are very much in demand,
and have been for all that time, at good salaries---

On the other hand, (the bright side), I was not intererest in commercial flying,
I was interested in aerobatics--- (air acrobatics)...

And if I had pursued my interests, my instinct tells me that I would not be alive now. LOL

I did continue to have some interest in flying---
but I pursued it through video games,
where one has an unlimited number of deaths.....

(I did manage to shoot down the Red Baron and his 2 escort planes,
multiple times, in a Super Nintendo rendition of World War One, I forget what it was called...
