Gov. Christie nominates two for state Supreme Court, including gay African-American mayor
TRENTON Gov. Chris Christie today nominated an openly gay African-American Republican mayor and an assistant attorney general to the states highest court.
Christie nominated Phil Kwon, who worked under Christie when he was U.S. attorney, and Bruce Harris, who was elected mayor of Chatham Borough in November.
They would replace former Justice John Wallace, who Christie declined to reappoint in 2010, and Justice Virginia Long, who faces mandatory retirement next month.
Christie has stressed that he wants to remake the Supreme Court, which he blames tying his hands on hot button issues such as funding for poor school districts and affordable housing.

There are many, many things not logical with that. (Republican) that is.

(10,340 posts)If he winds up making decisions that help the LGBT community, then I'll agree. But since he's a rethug, I'd have to assume he supports rethug anti-gay policies until proven otherwise.

(224 posts)There have been Republicans in NJ who have been instrumental in gay rights achievements, such as passing the civil unions law and the anti-bullying law.
This guy is mayor of Chatham, which is Republican in that they think Democrats will steal their money, but not Republican in a bigoted way. It's pretty gay friendly.
