Iran slams EU oil embargo, warns could hit U.S.

TEHRAN/BRUSSELS Jan 23 (Reuters) - Iran accused Europeans on Monday of waging "psychological warfare" after the EU banned imports of Iranian oil, joining the United States in new sanctions aimed at preventing Tehran from getting nuclear weapons.

"If any disruption happens regarding the sale of Iranian oil, the Strait of Hormuz will definitely be closed," Mohammad Kossari, deputy head of parliament's foreign affairs and national security committee, told Fars news agency a day after U.S., French and British warships sailed back into the Gulf.

"If America seeks adventures after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran will make the world unsafe for Americans in the shortest possible time," Kossari added, referring to an earlier U.S. pledge to use its fleet to keep the passage open.

China, Iran's biggest customer, has resisted U.S. pressure to cut back its oil imports, as have other Asian economies to varying degrees. India's oil minister said on Monday sanctions were forcing Iran to sell more cheaply and that India planned to take full advantage of that to buy as much as it could.

time to find alternate sources of crude.

Former Intelligence Minister Urges Iran's Preemptive Action on EU Oil Embargo

TEHRAN (FNA)- Former Iranian Intelligence Minister Ali Falahian called on Tehran authorities to stop oil supply to the European Union member states before the bloc decides on banning oil imports from Iran.

Speaking to FNA on Monday, Falahian pointed to an upcoming meeting of the EU member states to decide an oil ban against Iran, and said European states need a 6-month time to find alternative sources for Iranian oil.

"The best way for us is to stop oil exports before the 6-month deadline (announced by the EU) comes to an end and the oil embargo plan comes into effect so that crude prices go up and Europeans' US-driven plans for sanctioning our country's oil fall flat," Falahian stressed.

it would be a cruel joke indeed if shutting off Greece's cheap supply was the final straw which led to their demise and that really did start the dominoes falling.

Never ceases to amaze me how the west will cut off its collective noses to bleed on their chests. Must be good for BP oil companies...the price will soar for us all.

7. That's about negotiating better terms, not sanctions.

They know they've got Iran by the short and curlies and are negotiating a much better deal. As soon as they sign the extended terms, imports will go back to normal.

The war of provocation is getting louder. I suspect there are maybe two moves left before TSHTF.
