The US has indications that Iran is preparing to "imminently" launch a missile attack on Israel, according to several news agencies.
AFP cites a US official as its source, and Reuters and Axios cite separately a senior White House official.
Summary
The US has indications that Iran is preparing to "imminently" launch a missile attack on Israel, a senior White House official says
Israeli troops have invaded Lebanon, in what the Israeli military calls a "limited, localised and targeted" ground operation against Hezbollah
On Tuesday morning, an Israeli security official told the BBC there had been "no clashes" yet - but a military spokesman later told people in around 25 Lebanese villages to evacuate
The Lebanese prime minister says his country is facing "one of its most dangerous phases", and that one million people are displaced
Israeli air strikes are continuing - the IDF says it hit Beirut, while officials in Lebanon say a building in a Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon was hit
The Israeli military also says it has been operating inside Lebanon for months, with special forces destroying Hezbollah tunnels and seizing weapons
The US official reportedly tells AFP an attack on Israel would carry "severe consequences for Iran".

(8,237 posts)... they are gonna get slapped around pretty hard. Launch sites squelched, munitions factories wiped.
Nutandyahoo WANTS a big war....
And the US will not allow Iran to directly attack Israel without consequence.

(16,132 posts)We did not even know about all the theft and graft in the Russian military until the Russians started fighting a way themselves with their own delipidated equipment. They seem to build equipment but not maintain it. I doubt that their nukes will go boom as I was reading that the actual warheads have to be serviced about every 10 years. We do, but I would almost bet that would be something for a lot of corruption in Russia. Cause, how would the Kremlin know type of thinking. Like how would the Kremlin know that they tires on the vehicles have never been changed in over 20 years, or the oil changed since they were built. It probably does on paper at least and the Kremlin did pay one of Putins friends of the work.

(8,237 posts)... if Russia were to get directly involved, the US would likely intervene more directly in Ukraine. For all their bluster and bravado, that is the LAST thing Putin and his oligarchs want.

(2,541 posts)They aren't necessarily throwing all of their flagship weapons at Ukraine. They can't afford to. They still need to provide a fairly staunch non-nuclear military deterrent if for nothing else but self preservation. I will freely admit I've never thought they were a military juggernaut (as was being sold to us for decades so that the MIC could reach deep into Uncle Sam's pockets). But they've got some fairly formidable weaponry and it's weaponry like nothing we've faced since WWII. Is our weaponry superior? Well yeah (it fucking better be all my tax dollars wasted on it yadda mfers) if it were to come to heads up. But we'd never roll them in a week, not even a month. It would be a very long and bloody battle, mostly on their side more than likely because they have the world's largest meat wall. We'd take a hit, a hit I think none of us wants. Then there's the nukes. Even rusty nukes are bad nukes

(54,303 posts)All of Netanyahu's dreams are coming true. Israel struck both Lebanon and Yemen knowing full well that Iran would retaliate. They've got one of the best intelligence agencies on the planet.
I say we stay out of it. If Biden enters war with Iran, Harris will lose.

(8,237 posts)The big question, IMO, is just how stupid the Iranians are. There is no positive outcome for them here.
Nutandyahoo is hoping of r alarger scale war to secure himself politically. He's pissed off Biden recently, but a massive Iranian attack would force the US's hand.
If Iran has any brains at all, they won't take the bait.

What a clusterfuck. Besides the clear threat to Israel, there is our election to worry about. This, I'm afraid, is the October surprise.
Doesn't need to directly attack Israel and so won't. It wants to continue building an atomic bomb, selling oil and enabling conflict through surrogates.
